Kelly,
I grew up eating homemade bread from flour that my mom milled at home. We made our own tortillas on a “tortilla press”. It’s a round, electric iron that flattens the dough balls and cooks the tortillas on both sides, simultaneously. It cuts the cook time in half, at least! You may be interested in getting one.
Leah – That is on my list of things to buy. Any brand or press you recommend?
Our tortilla press is wonderfujl -presses out instantly without using oil. You can leave the pressed tortilla on the press with it open to brown it slightly if you like. We have an electric press similar to this one:

Have you used a Wooden Tortilla Press to make the tortillas or which press did you use? Thanks.
Wow! What a cool idea! I make bread and rolls all the time but I’ve never thought to make tortillaas! How fun! Thanks for the post!
I’m thinking replacing the water with whey would make a more nutritious tortilla and another use for whey. Have you tried using the Mesa mix for tortillas?
did you use coconut oil? and do they taste like coconut after being cooked? I know alot of times things have a slight coconut taste that I really dont mind, but not sure how I feel about it in my tortillas! 🙂
I think I’m gonna try to make these tonight to go with my quinoa tacos! Yum!
Making homemade flour tortillas changed the way I approach simple meals. The texture, warmth, and flavor are unmatched nursing homes Studio City compared to store-bought. I love the process—kneading the dough, rolling it out, and watching it puff on a hot skillet. They’ve become a comforting staple in my kitchen, perfect for any filling.
