Prep time:
Cook time:
Serves: 8 servings
  • 1 egg
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • ¼ cup parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup quick-cooking oats
  • ⅓ cup onion, chopped
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon seasoned salt (like Lawry's)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • ½ lb bacon, uncooked (optional)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar, packed (or sucanat)
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a bowl, beat the egg and milk together. Stir in the parsley, cheese, oats, onion and salts. Add the beef and mix well.
  3. Shape into eight loaves and place on a broiler or drip pan.
  4. Optional: Cover each loaf with a piece of uncooked bacon. Cut each bacon slice into thirds and lay each third over one loaf, covering completely and tucking underneath.
  5. Combine ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Spoon generously over each loaf.
  6. Bake, uncovered, for 45 minutes, or until meat is no longer pink.
