How to Pull off a Kitchen Prep Day

Here are a few tips to help you get ready to do your very own Kitchen Prep Day.

1.  Use what you have – I start out by seeing what I already have on hand to work with. Use websites like All Recipes or Recipezaar to give you a little creative inspiration.  You can type in your ingredients and it will give you a list of ideas to create.

2.  Check out the Sale Ads – See what are on sale this week, particularly fresh produce.  For instance, this week a 10-lb bag of russet potatoes is on sale at Kroger, so I am going to make Steak Fries and freeze them.

3.  Have a Master Plan – Determine exactly what you will be cooking.  I usually put a few extra things I might not have time to do, just in case things go more smoothly than I thought.

4. Create Your Grocery List – Now that you know what you have on hand, what is on sale and what you are going to make, create your final grocery list.

5.  Plan your Prep “To-Do” List – It is very important to have a plan for the day.  How are you going to tackle all that work in such a short amount of time? Before I start, I make a list of what can happen when. It allows me to make use of down time while things are in the oven, or rising.  Check out my lists from January’s and February’s Prep Days for a few ideas.

Be sure to checkout my Master Plan I posted about on Monday.
