Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution — Watch It!!

on March 26, 2010 · 0 Comments

If you have been following me long, you know that my heart is in cooking, I love it. After having children, I also have renewed my desire to cook and prepare more healthy meals in an effort to provide them the model of a healthy lifestyle. Our children live what they know.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I want to encourage you to DVR, Tivo or watch Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution on Friday, March 26th at 9pm EST on ABC. I saw the premier last week and I think it is such a great way to encourage families to make better food choices.  But to also see that as a society we have gotten complacent about what we put into our bodies.  On his site he says the following:

It wasn’t that their parents didn’t want to feed them properly; it was just that nobody had ever taught them the basics about cooking and food so they didn’t have the knowledge they needed to be able to whip up good hearty family meals. ~ Jamie Oliver

That is my desire here, to teach you the basics of cooking and food so that you can easily and inexpensively give your family healthy meals! One of my goals in preparing food for my family is that I am slowly changing the way we eat.  We started with at least 50% whole grains, limiting our refined and white flours.  Now I am focusing on trying to eliminate most artificial colors and flavorings. Plus, I am ever so carefully introducing less refined sugars like Blue Agave Nectar, Honey, Turbinado and maybe even Succanat into our sweetener choices.

If you are really excited about it, you can even sign his petition to save cooking skills and improve school food.

==========================
Anyone see the premier?  What did you think? I would love to hear your thoughts.

    I cannot wait to watch it!! I watched last week and was horrifed. WE are sometimes guilty of taking the quick way out or giving into kids desires. I have been working on it and plan to continue – cannot wait to learn more!

    I am really fired up about this whole topic. I blogged about it too, and then flipped over to your site to see your post! I’m so glad you are also getting the word out.
    I am trying hard to cut junk food and processed foods out of our diet. But you can’t do it overnight. I started with the easiest: No chips, sodas and other junky snack food (except special occasions) and have moved onto cooking most meals from scratch.
    I’ve used several of your recipes. They’re great. Thanks for all the ideas.

    I caught the preview last week too, and I just loved it! In the two years that she has been in school, my daughter has NEVER bought a school lunch. I get grossed out just looking at them when I visit for lunch (which I do regularly). It is disgusting what passes for “food” these days. Go, Jamie!

    I thought the show was incredible! Kudos to Jamie for his passion to educate kids (and the entire community) about healthy eating. I was very inspired and convicted to make changes in our household.

    Oh my goodness! After watching that I don’t think I can EVER eat “rib meat” like chicken nuggets or patties again. I mean really, that was absolutely disgusting. Thank goodness for restaurants like Chick-fil-A where it is all good meat!
