I like to give my mother something personal. We are close. We shop together and maybe she’ll say that she like something, but won’t get it for hersef, I’ll go back and get it. My daughter always gives her hand-picked flowers, which my mother adores. My mother-in-law loves anything chocolate, so we go to our chocolate store and get her pound of her favorites.

I will probably take my mom out to dinner, but the idea of giving her a rose bush to plant is a nice one, too.

I also make jewelry and mother’s necklaces are one of my latest designs. I have my own twist on birthstones and design modern necklaces that mothers love to wear. My Mom is getting a custom necklace with a silver pendent I made out of metal clay – the pendent boasts the names of her grandsons & is 99.5% genuine silver!

My mom is moving into a house this year with a stream in her backyard. So this year I’m giving her two benches that together turn into a picnic table. I’m making it myself from composite boards. She’ll enjoy it for years and won’t have any maintenance.

I made my mom a photo book from Shutterfly. They are so easy to make and beautiful enough for the coffee table. There are 4 children in my family-my husband and I are in CO, my sister lives in Spain doing missionary work (my parents manage to make it over there to see her about once a year), and my 2 brothers are in college in NC and TN. Needless to say, we haven’t had the entire family together in quite some time. I’m the picture queen in the family, so I compiled all the wonderful photos over the years and created a chronological photo book. I made sure to include as many pictures of my sister as I could find, since she is the one we all see the least.
