One thing I have learned in trying to save money is that it is most importantly a lifestyle change. You have to shift your thinking from the immediate need gratification, to a more scheduled and planned way of providing for your needs.
For instance, if I need peanut butter now, I have lost the opportunity to get it at it’s best price, because I will buy it now at whatever price I find it at on the shelf today. However, if I have a jar of peanut butter in my pantry and it is on sale this week and I have a coupon…I can get enough to last me to the next sale at a rock-bottom price. This way you never pay full price. You want to try to duplicate this example in all your household and family needs.
Planning is a key component in saving money and it is a total mindset shift for most people. It takes time, but once you begin to think and shop this way, it is not only budget-changing, but life-changing!
So, how about you, what have you done to create a lifestyle of saving? Join the discussion in the Frugal Living Community and tell us your ideas and tips.
