Wow, we had an amazing first day of school yesterday. It was my first day every to homeschool and my daughter’s first official day of kindergarten! We had a blast and accomplished more than I ever would have imagined. See her excitement? That is a HUGE horsefly in that baggie. Our first science lesson — what bug is it?
I have to give ALL the glory to God, because if it was up to me, half of it wouldn’t have been done! I am not telling you any of this to brag, but to encourage you in whatever God is calling you to right this very minute. Whether it is adding an activity to your schedule to serve someone else, shopping and preparing meals for your family or caring for your little ones. If God calls you to it, I truly believe he will equip you for it fully.
My daily Facebook verse for today so accurately sums up how I feel about the Lord and his role in my life at this very moment.
To this end I labor, struggling with all his energy, which so powerfully works in me. ~ Colossians 1:29
Yesterday, I set some lofty goals to complete, thinking most of it would probably not go as planned. And if it did, I would be absolutely wiped out. I think the most important piece I made sure to do was start my day off with the Lord and his laying out of my foundation for the day. He set the tone for my entire day. Now, don’t be misled, this doesn’t happen every day. But, I know that without the equipping of the Holy Spirit, yesterday would have been a mess.
Do you give up your schedule and plans to the Lord’s direction? Or do you do like me most of the time and try to do it all yourself? I would love to hear your stories, sstruggles, words of encouragement or calls for direction. We are all fallen and sinful and need the glory of God to even make it through each and every day.
Thank you very much for that encouragement! It’s easy sometimes to just go on with what we have planned for the day and forget God’s plan. How easy would it be for me to stop by Biblegateway while I am coupon hopping. Thank you for putting things in perspective for me this morning. Hope you have a wonderful day!
Praise God!!!
Just a word of encouragement on homeschooling your daughter. I did the same with the youngest of our three daughters for kindergarten through 4th grade. When we enrolled her in a private school for 5th grade, they tested her for placement, and the principal told me he had never seen a better prepared homeschooler. I hope that doesn’t sound like bragging. I tell it because we have been made to feel as if we are ill-equipped to teach our own children, that we should leave that to the education “experts.” But that just isn’t so.
This past weekend we helped our daughter move into her dorm at a major university, where she earned a full tuition scholarship due to grades and test scores.
Although at times homeschooling was really rough–especially with Math, my daughter’s weakest subject, but–oh boy–was it ever worth it!
May God bless you and give you wisdom and patience as you teach your sweet child at home.
