Yes, I am on a Detox program. Wow is it hard. I am doing a detox to try and help my back and allergies. Anyone ever done a detox before? I would love good inexpensive food ideas and recipes to keep me on track.
So, I am off of dairy, wheat and sugar for a few weeks. My diet consists mostly of vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts and coconut milk. Needless to say the grocery list has changed a bit and I am dying for some pasta. Thank goodness for my friend Heather who told me about a kind of wheat and gluten free pasta called, quinoa pasta. I am so excited to make my Roasted Eggplant Pasta with it this week.
With all that said, my shopping was pretty light again this week and I hardly used coupons. I dropped by Aldi, Publix and Whole Foods and spent a total of about $35 . I have been working on a special project for the last few weeks that I’ll be telling you about very soon. That is why my shopping has been lacking.
Aldi – rolled oats, salad dressing, bananas
Publix – cold cuts, bread, sweet potatoes
Whole Foods – quinoa pasta, whole wheat organic tortillas, organic black beans, muir glen tomato sauce, Almond Thin Crackers

A niece-in-law was just saying on FB she hasn’t had to go to dr. in over a year, for what sounds like some intense allergies, because she is drinking mangosteen juice (Xanga company?)
I’ve been gluten-free for almost two years, and have been eating mostly “clean” for a few months, cutting out sugar, alot of carbs, and alot of preservatives and the like. It is rough at the the beginning, but after a few weeks, the difference in how you feel is 110% worth it. I now only occasionally have any trouble with my stomach, and my mood and energy levels have greatly improved. Personally, I’m not a fan of the quinoa pasta, but there are several rice-based pastas that are quite good. As for missing things like pasta, I found that once the sugar was out of my system, I didn’t miss anything at all! In fact, I’ve mostly lost my taste for sweets, as well as for starches like bread and pasta.
Good luck, and I hope you feel fabulous very soon! I love your posts!
We love quinoa pasta. My oldest son is allergic to wheat, so we tried many wheat alternatives & quinoa was our favorite. My Publix actually carries that same brand it’s just not in the same place as regular pasta. I’m able to get it cheaper there than at Whole Foods.
I just finished two weeks of the Daniel fast, with some alterations…it’s hard, especially foregoing morning coffee. But I feel great!!! It was well worth it and I actually can’t wait to do it again. Sounds similar to what you are doing…I hope you have great success!
Wow I hope to try a detox soon but I need to get used to weight watchers program first….
Have you tried regular or red quinoa pilaf with mango/dried cranberries? Quinoa is also delicious in soups – in chicken or vegetable stock works great!
I’m confused about Quinoa being wheat free as the box in photo says “organic whole wheat”.
i’ve also read that some do good with the mangosteen juice. I wish I could afford it. Sometimes it’s a catch 22 to get feeling better when one is so ill and does not have the income to buy better quality foods that usually cost more.
I did that a few weeks ago and lost 12 lobs in 3 weeks and felt a lot better. One of the things that helped me was to add in verious kinds of beans…garbonzo, black, refried to my salads or other veggie mixes. I got so tired of veggies sometimes and the beans helped to make it more palatable. I also discovered I love boca burgers wrapped in lettuce. They aee so flavorful and something different.
I haven’t tried the quinoa pasta, but I can tell you that the Brown Rice Pasta from Trader Joe’s is the BEST and it’s gluten free. It is the closest to “regular” pasta that I have found, and it is so much less expensive. They have rotini, penne, and spaghetti.
Kelly – I did a Candida Yeast Overgrowth Detox in August 2010 and repeated it twice since. I have lost a total of 35 pounds and feel great! It is tough especially at first but so worth it!
I could not eat any carbs and had to eliminate fruits for the first 21 days. I only drank water and still do.
I did a series of posts about it. Here is one if you are interested.

I have to say it is the best thing I ever did for myself. I really utilized price matching and overage and bought only organic foods for the plan and still stayed within my monthly budget so it can be done.
Good luck to you!
Kelly,
I would love to hear more about this detox and how it helps the back. I experience back pain and would appreciate information you may have.
Trader Joe’s sells brown rice gluten free pasta! It is very reasonable too. The only thing I have found with this pasta is that it doesn’t re-heat well…..it tends to stick together.
