Just a few years ago, I would have never imagined that today I would be living my wildest dream: Running my own online business from home and helping other moms learn the tips and tricks they need to save money for their families.
Dreams not only need a dreamer, however, dreams need a beginning, and they need a lot of support along the way. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my friend Bekah. She was in my small group for about a year, and that turned out to be just long enough to be a mentor to me. When we met, I had just quit my job to stay home with my newborn daughter, Ainsley. Bekah is the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman—she really managed her home and children well. I wanted to make my husband’s income go further and take care of my home the way she did. Her mom was the one who taught her to use coupons and shop sales, and Bekah is the one who taught me.
It didn’t take long for me to learn how to save a lot of money. Bekah was a good teacher, but I think she’ll agree that I was a pretty good student! I found even more ways to save online, and our family’s grocery expenses steadily declined. Today, we spend only $300 per month.
Like Bekah, I wanted to share with others how they could cut costs and save money too. I love teaching people about it, and soon, speaking opportunities were literally chasing me! When I started sending out email blasts to my friends and students in my couponing classes, it eventually evolved into a blog, local media exposure, and then my home-based business. Everywhere I turned, it seemed people were cheering me on: my husband, my family, and my friends.
I always felt a desire to get out of corporate America, but while Bradford and I had always wanted to have our own business, I never thought it would be this. I never would have dared to dream this big. How about you? What are you dreaming? And what would you never even dare to dream? Whatever it is, I think you can do it, and I’m not the only one. Most small local businesses exist because someone had a dream, and someone else came along and said, “I believe in you” and offered their support.
