I love being able to show you exactly “how” I do something. That’s the way my mother and grandmother taught me to cook, can, and freeze–by demonstrating it and talking me through each step. In this video, I’m taking you through my process of preparing jalapeno peppers to go in the freezer.
I usually flash freeze produce before storing it in bags to freeze, but I don’t have to do that with jalapenos. These are not at risk for clumping together. Because I dice them up so small, I only have to crunch them up in the bag to be able to get out what I need for recipes. Here are some of my favorite recipes for using jalapenos as a topping or recipe add-in:
- Spicy Chicken and Black Bean Bowl
- White Chicken Chili
- Slow Cooker Texas Chili
- Taco Seasoned Meat
- Peach Salsa
Btw, this was my third time to tape, and the kids kept walking in the back door while I was trying to film this! At the end of this take I knew I had to get it right because I didn’t have any more whole jalapenos to use as a demo. As I was finishing up the last one, I could see the kids out of the corner of my eye, trying to get in the door. So if it seems like I rushed at the last few seconds, that is why!

Do you grow your own jalapenos? Do you keep the membrane and seeds in, or do you cut them out like I did?
This is great! Thank you! Could you post something about what to do with an overload of potatoes? After the big sale at Kroger a couple of weeks ago I want to freeze some of them but not really sure if I’m going to ruin them! Thank you so much for all of your hard work!
