My favorite holiday decorations?
The ones made by my two favorite young designers: Ainsley and Garrett! These two have a way with crayons and construction paper, glitter and glue, that simply amazes me! Paper chains, ornaments, and banners adorn our home, getting us all in the mood for a holiday of Christmas cheer and delight.
I love putting up things the children have made to celebrate Christmas. And as we decorate our Christmas tree, they enjoy getting out the ornaments they have made over the past few years and hanging them prominently. We “ooh” and “ahhh” together over how pretty their handmade designs make our tree look. The only thing that can dampen my spirits is thinking of how quickly they are growing!
Although the kids do enjoy their own creations, they are more fascinated by the Nativity Scene that we display. The special feelings of Christmas begin to bubble over as we unwrap each of the characters to set it up: Mary and Joseph, the Wise Men, the Shepherds, and the animals. A sense of wonder and pure cheer seem to permeate our home as we take the time to ponder the miracle and the mystery of that night, that holy night, over 2000 years ago.
