Cheap Mother’s Day flowers doesn’t mean that you are cheap! In fact, it is the “cheaper” priced gifts that are always my favorite, knowing that my family got a great deal and had me in mind in the process is what means the most. Especially this precious bouquet my son pulled for me straight from the back yard!
If you don’t have any flowers to pull from your back yard you can find lots of great deals this time of year. Since Mother’s Day weekend is the biggest holiday for sending and receiving flowers, it is the best time to find a good deal on flowers. I would recommend finding an inexpensive and simple bouquet filled with one of the flowers listed below. Having your flowers stay around for a long time makes them an even better deal.

Three Ways to Keep Flowers Fresh
Now, just because you’re getting a great deal, there are a few things you can do to keep your mom’s bouquet fresh, even though you purchased it on the cheap. Mother’s Day flowers will stay fresh and fragrant–giving you the biggest bang for your buck–when you use a few of these tricks, straight from your pantry.
- Aspirin. Adding a crushed aspirin or two to the vase water will keep roses and other cut flowers fresh. If you don’t have an aspirin available, a copper penny will do the same thing.
- Hair spray. A few spritzes of any hair spray will keep the bouquet fresh. If you try this, be careful not to over-do it. Just stand about a foot away, and spray the undersides of the leaves, then lightly mist all over.
- Soda. Sugar is a natural preservative. Mix a clear soda like 7-UP or Sprite in with your vase water. The sugar in the soda will preserve the flowers’ freshness and color.
