As our country heads toward another election, I have seen some people talking about a “40 Days of Prayer” initiative. I love that because I believe our country needs prayer. I know I need prayer, and so does my family, my community, and my country.
But there is something very significant about when a people–a nation–come together to pray. It is a humbling thing when we focus on God, bow before Him, and admit that we are dependent upon His love and His provision for both our daily needs as well as our eternal ones.
Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NLT)
I am not here to tell you who to vote for, but I do want to encourage you to vote. The fact that we live in this great democracy is often taken for granted. Don’t let anything keep you from voting next month. After all, that right to vote was fought for and won at a great cost. Embrace that right because many don’t have it.
Author and pastor Max Lucado has a way to help you remember to pray from now until Election Day. He has asked people to make a pledge to pray and join others who are doing the same by signing the pledge HERE. (It’s actually more like 34 days of prayer now, but it is never too late to start praying!) You can also download a FREE prayer card HERE to share with your friends, neighbors, and church groups.
My Reading Plan
I want to encourage you to join me in reading Isaiah this month. I will be reading 2-3 chapters each day. Tomorrow I’ll be around chapter 6 or so. I’ll be posting it on Facebook, so be sure to follow me on my Facebook page while reading through Isaiah.
Kelly are you going to be doing this again this election year?
I am not sure, but it sure would be a great idea!
