Maybe it’s because I live in Music City (Nashville), but I came up with 5 musical Christmas gift ideas for kids’ shoeboxes that I think would be a lot of fun. Plus, I think these would all be the right size so that they would easily fit into a shoebox.
- Tambourines (I like these colorful tambourines for kids that I found on Amazon.)
- Bells
- Recorder
- Harmonica
- Triangle
Melissa and Doug have a “Band in a Box” set (pictured above) available with several different musical toys.

My children have also enjoyed making these rope bracelets for their Operation Christmas Child boxes. If you plan a Shoebox Packing Party as a Christmas project, these are fun to make with the kids. They can make one for their box, and also one for themselves to remind them to pray for the child who is going to receive their shoebox.

Target has some musical instruments in their dollar bins in Nashville this week. I saw harmonicas and triangles in there, as well as other fun gifts for shoeboxes, such as yo-yos, dominoes, ball games, and wooden airplane kits. Thanks for helping us think about these early!
I was going to say the same thing about Target. Picked up some of those musical instruments for my kids, so now I’ll go back for my boxes. : )
