If Dad hustles out the door every morning to get to work, usually skipping breakfast or grabbing something quick, then a Father’s Day breakfast might be just the way to start his very special day. Dads deserve to pampered and served, especially on Father’s Day. Breakfast is a fun way to do this, and a great way to teach your kids about serving others and expressing appreciation for the things that they probably don’t think much about. Be sure to talk with your children about Father’s Day and how this is a time to honor Dad.
Just as a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him (Psalm 103:13).
Start off his morning with the kids bringing him a strong cup of coffee, or a creamy blended smoothie, or a glass of fresh juice while singing a rousing chorus of “Happy Father’s Day to You.” Now that he’s up and going, give him the Sunday paper, if that’s his thing—fresh and crisp and untouched by human hands. If he prefers to get his news via laptop or iPad or TV, make sure that’s available to him. Head off with the kids to the kitchen while Dad enjoys his drink and news.

Kids can help you prepare breakfast, or they can get busy with arranging and decorating the breakfast tray. A few of Dad’s favorite things, or symbols of their favorite things to do with Dad, are great ideas. Try these odds and ends:
- Lego’s
- Baseball
- Pictures
- A vase–not filled with flowers, but a couple of new tools in it (screwdriver, pliers, small hammer)
Let the kids really help you, to the best of their ability. Don’t rush. You’re teaching your kids about serving, about putting others first, and about meeting the very basic needs of life whenever you are in the kitchen with them. Make it fun! Some of my favorite breakfast ideas for Dad are:
- A bowl of homemade granola and fresh fruit
- Eggs Over Greens
- Steak and Eggs with Garlic Home Butter Fries
- Breakfast Burrito with Spinach and Bacon
- Whole Wheat Pancakes
- French Toast with fruit and Grilled Bacon
