Neilsen Homescan Consumer Panel: Needs New Members

on September 23, 2009 · 0 Comments

It’s back again, you better sign up quick, because these go FAST!!  I have never had the opportunity to participate in this program because they never need members in my area.  I will say it is said to be a little work, but many participants say the benefits are wonderful, lots of free stuff!!

Have you heard of the Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel?
As a Nielsen panel member, Homescan will provide you with a FREE hand-held scanner. Every time you or members of your household shop, you’ll use the scanner to scan the barcodes on all of your purchases. Then, once a week, you’ll send them your purchase information.

What’s in it for you?
You’ll earn gift points for scanning products. The gift points will be redeemable for name-brand merchandise, including electronics equipment, jewelry, household items, toys, and much more! You’ll also earn entries into sweepstakes!

Interested in becoming a Homescan Panelist?
Just go here and fill out the form! Please be aware that certain Zip codes are excluded (I’m not sure which ones), so you may or may not qualify. It worth a shot to see, though!  (Unfortunately, my zip code didn’t need anyone, rats!)

Do I have any readers currently in the program that would like to share their perspectives?

Have you ever read what you have to do with this scanner? I got it in and it is a pain – you have to scan every item, prices, if you used coupons, regular price and was it on sale and what was the sale if you used your shopper card, etc – if you have kids running around or refrig/freezer food it makes it worse. I am sending mine back this week. NOt worth it for what you get.

My zip code (37209) is excluded. 🙁 I would have liked one of those cool scan things! lol!

My zipcode is 23238. I answered questions about my household to complete the information. I got a message saying my name has been placed on the waiting list for a scanner. Anyone else get this message?

It is definitely a painstaking process! Scanning every item, indicating whether or not you used a coupon, if the item was on sale. If you’re going to do it make sure you have LOTTSSS of time on your hands. I got mine and I’m just trying to get the courage to get started! I don’t know what the incentives are worth but this thing is comparable to a part time job! I wouldn’t be in a rush to sign up for it if I was you…

I just got an email the other day saying mine was on its way, but like Sarah, Lynne’s comment makes me nervous! I use coupons and have a 3 year old running around…hope it’s worth it!
