Have you ever read a book you just could. not. put. down? Literally, every spare chance you got you had it in your hands. And maybe… I let housework go and let the kids watch more TV than normal to get a few extra moments to read! If you have been following me on Faithful Provisions here long, you know my absolute obsession with books and reading. I love to read. So, to tell you that you need to go out right now and get ONE : Impossible Starts Here, is big. Really big.
I am blessed to personally know one of the authors Gwen. In fact, Gwen and her ministry 147 Million Orphans was a big influence on our decision to adopt. In fact, my sweet Ainsley was so inspired by them that she asked to “give her birthday away” a few years ago. Now, I have read lots of inspiring books, especially biographies of those who have lived a life of service. But this book was different, it is the first one that actually got me to start putting one foot in front of the other and DO something. Because Gwen and Suzanne don’t give you this overwhelming guilt of what we are to do as believers. It is a simple call… do ONE thing. Answer the call, the opportunity God has put before you today, right now and don’t worry about the rest. And my favorite part, they are just like me, I could totally relate to them. They don’t try to hide anything, they tell it like it is, and sometimes it just isn’t pretty!
I dog-eared, underlined and flipped through the words over and over. It is just full of encouragement. One of my favorite excerpts is this one from page 100:
People talk about having their “prayer time,” which, of course is an excellent thing to do. But we can’t help but giggle a little bit now, whenever we hear that term, because “prayer time” for us now is just all the time–not because we’re super-spiritual or anything, but simply because we’re just trying to survive. In the carpool, in the kitchen, in the morning when our feet first hit the floor and every single moment between then and bedtime–and beyond–we’re always keeping up this running stream of prayer between ourselves and the Lord…because we’ve lost the ability to do anything else. If He’s not there, we’ve got nothing. But because He is, we’ve got everything.
We can do this.
We can do it for You, Jesus.
Do yourself a favor, go out an buy this book now!!! Or even better, head over and order your copy of ONE : Impossible Starts Here. You will be so happy you did!
This sounds interesting and I have already added it to my Amazon cart. In regards to the “prayer time”, I hope these ladies can eventually find time to have that time again. Not because it makes one super-spiritual but because it does have its purpose (just as spending time alone with any person does – husband, children fiends, etc). I know for me that my time alone with the Lord is like no other, though I do have a running dialogue throughout the day with the Lord also. I can remember having to adjust that time when my children were small because there is such a demand on ones time and physical body during those years but it can still be accomplished. “Prayer time” can happen in so many ways – even while rocking a baby!
Patty, I completely agree! This might read out of context how I inserted it, but it shows how they were always praying, not just during a special “quiet time” each morning. They make a point to let the reader know later in the book that they still have that quiet time, but there was a season where it was not possible. Hope that helps!
