Had a horrible experience with a Publix clerk named Jenny (Nashville). She held up the line … and me w/ two children …forever scrutinizing my coupons. All followed Publix’s policies and were not even that exciting. She stopped in the middle of scanning my items when she saw me lay my coupons down (I didn’t give them to her or ask her to take them) & laid them all out (about 10) on the conveyer belt and went thru them twice, yes twice, matching and checking each detail. This was at 5 o’clock w/ lots of people waiting too. Then she had the nerve to ask if I really had bought the cheese I was given her a coupon for….as if she could have caught that in the previous 2 analyses. Oh & my the bagger got tired of waiting for her to give up the half items she was holding up at the top of the belt. That left me to bag my own groceries while holding the baby. The lady behind me felt so bad she was offering to hold him. After all this, the clerk asks me to give her my credit card that I had just self- scanned, checks the back, and ask me to get out my photo id …. while holding the baby! (my card was in my pocket for easy access- not my id) At this point the clerk behind her must have noted my frustration and struggle and told her to let it go. I have never felt so targeted and treated like I was doing something wrong when I followed all the rules… down the number of fluid ounces in my orange juice and yes she checked. I don’t think she could have made this shopping experience more unpleasant… I would say if she tried, but then, I think she did.
Just wanted to let everyone know that along with the Tollhouse BOGO, some of the packs of the filled Tollhouse cookies have a save $1.00 now coupon on them. I bought six packs last night at 45 cents each just using the coupons that were on the packs! I found mine at the Publix on Concord/Nolensville Road. Hopefully there are more out there!
Wow! I’m so sorry to hear that. I really do hope that you will call that manager and complain. They will never know their customers are being treated so poorly if no one tells them. I LOVE publix and so far (crossing my fingers) I’ve never had an unpleasant experience. But I can only imagine how frustrating that was. I have a four year old and 18 month old and it’s hard enough just shopping with babies. I couldn’t imagine having to bag my own groceries! That’s just awful. I hope your next experience is better and please, for the rest of us, make a complaint!! Have a great day!!
-Shirlee
I’m so sorry about your bad experience! Please call Publix headquarters as well as the store manager. I understand cashiers wanting to make sure the coupons & items match-up, but they should absolutely treat customers with kindness & dignity!
Has anyone notice price differences at Publix stores? I shop mostly in Franklin.
the betty crocker cookie q states that you cannot double or triple it. guess that q is a bust
Christie – Publix will usually still double it for you. That is their policy :).
Was your bad experience in Bellevue Publix? I had a clerk there do that as well last week, only she was fairly nice about it, stating that she had to keep up with everything as she went thru my groceries (I had about $100 worth of groceries and quite a few coupons, as you can imagine!). She would scan the item the search for the coupon and scan the coupon! It took forever, but I had already forseen this and gave the lady behind me a coupon for her frozen rolls, as I noticed I had a few extra. So…she was fairly nice about the wait. Another clerk, who I go to regularly, did the same thing with me yesterday and she practically KNOWS me! I’m wondering if they are really cracking down or what! What’s funny is…it won’t scan if you didn’t get the item, right? So what’s with all the technology if you’re not going to use it. I’m a self-scanner if at ALL possible. Got my free Cover Girl eye shadow today and of course, went thru the self-scanner without being eye-balled by any clerks!
Yes, Bellevue. I spoke w/ the manager last night about their customer service. I would understand if I was using coupons to get multiple items free, attempted pass an expired coupon, etc., but I make every effort to follow the rules and I gave her no reason to assume the worst. The impression I was given was I was attempting to do something wrong. If they want to run all the folks using coupons off, their store is going to be much quieter. On a positive note, I was in the Franklin Publix before Thanksgiving and folks could not have been nicer or more helpful. It was so nice I even stopped and told the manager. Thanks for the suggestion re: the self-scanner. I’ll give that a try next time.
I think this might be a new policy with Publix. I have noticed new clerks doing the same thing at the store I shop at regularly.
Guess they don’t realize that we are spending money there on things that we don’t have coupon for as some items just never have a coupon available. I also went to Kroger and had a problem with a clerk, while she and another clerk were talking between themselves (as if I wasn’t standing there) about how people use fake internet coupons to scam stores. I assured her that mine were legit and she ignored my comments. Hmmmm….wake up Kroger and Publix – we could all be at Aldi right now!
What is the rite aid ad perk?
publix did double my betty crocker Q….also, my clerk layed out my coupons as she was scanning the items….she was real nice but i had to pay sales tax on the coupons since i don’t have to pay sales tax when using food stamps
Sorry to hear about the trouble. It’s VERY odd for Publix to not be compliant, our McKay’s Mill people are very friendly and the 96 Publix is pretty nice too. I have noticed after over a year of serious couponing that the new clerks tend to OVER ANALYZE EVERYTHING!! The new cashier I had last time in Franklin was very nice, but explained that they are becoming more strict on what coupons the cashiers take. She said she didn’t want to lose her job over taking a wrong coupon. I got soo tired of a lady giving me grief each time during triples at the Franklin Rd. Harris Teeter, that I haven’t been back.
I prefer to use the self-scanner too but at the Donelson Kroger when you use a coupon at the U-Scan you still have to give them to the cashier to input so it’s not faster.
I don’t know if someone commented on this in the previous comments, but you can get Scotch Magic tape FREE with the BOGO sale. My stores (in FL) have it $1.99. In the Winter Holiday coupon book in stores there are coupons for $1 off 1. I picked up 8 packages yesterday for a profit of $0.16.
Also, Florida stores (at least SE Florida) do NOT double coupons…ever. 🙁
which bellevue publix? 100 or 70? i have the best luck with the stores on 70.
Spring Hill Publix said that they are watching competitior coupons. If target’s says one per transaction then that is what they do. If you want to go thru the line several times you can. The manager there was very nice about it. She said they had a problem at another store were people would come in with all these competitor and manufacture coupons and clean the shelf off of items. She said they were getting the items all free and then getting money back. They can not afford to that. I told her I don’t want their money just to save as much as possible. So whoever was do this ( she said in Franklin) Thanks so much:(
I must agree with the young lady who spoke about the outstanding customer service you get at Publix in Franklin on Hillsboro Road, across from Fieldstone Farms. I moved to this area from Bellevue two years ago and what a difference in customer service. Mr. Jerry Adams, General Manager, along with his outstanding employees do everything they can to make sure you have a pleasant experience. I promise if you have a problem go directly to Mr. Adams or another manager on staff and it will be taken care of immediately. I love this store and have never had one problem so I would suggest it to anyone.
