I only bought needs and a few non-essential really good deals at Harris Teeter this week. And only at Harris Teeter because I was in the area and wanted the Kashi deals!! We had so much in our stockpile, I am really trying to only purchase our needs, plus a few really good deals the next month or so. We are at a point where I don’t “need” to keep purchasing even if it is a good deal, because we have plenty. This is the hardest lesson for me to learn — when to say enough is enough.
How about you? Is that a difficult line for you to draw? I would love to hear your thoughts…

Oh I have a horrible time saying enough is enough! I have 15 boxes of cereal in the pantry that I wonder how it all will get eaten!
You did great! I am jealous of how cheap you got the Kashi stuff, but I don’t need to be adding any more cereal to my stockpile!
Well, I only shopped at HT this week but I made 3 trips. I am so stocked up on cereal, granola bars I could probably go 3-4 months. And Yogurt for at least a month (might have to freeze some)
My total OOP was 26.XX. My total savings was $147.XX. ($48 store sales and almost $100 COUPONS!!) Yay for coupons! Thanks for your site Kelly!
I, like Lisa, probably have 15 boxes of cereal in the house too right now. But thankfully, I know we’ll eat it. My pantry is pretty large, so I tend to stockpile more, and I would agree that it’s hard to know when to stop. I think I tend to stockpile more because we don’t always buy whatever brand is on sale…there are brands that we prefer more than others, so when they go on sale, I tend to always buy them (especially if I have coupons), because I don’t know when I’ll find them on sale again – when I’ve had a minimal stockpile, I’ve run out and had to get creative until I could find them on sale again. Wouldn’t it be nice if manufacturers put things on sale at the same time every year?! But even with one extremely picky eater and one lactose intolerant child, I have still managed to save around 50% on my grocery bill almost every time. I saved 64% at Harris Teeter today, even with buying lactose free milk. Thanks Kelly…you’ve helped me a bunch!!
Came over from moneysavingmom… I like your grocery-girl there in your picture:) As a mom of 5, I must stockpile. But right now I face the dilema that my upright deepfreezer is FULL. This is a good thing and this is a bad thing. I need to defrost and it’s a hot summer here in Tennessee. Since I was a slacker and didn’t do it in the spring (lesson learned!) when we still had cold nights, I am going to have to do it now. So over the next two weeks I am going to use as much as I can from my freezer so I can defrost it without as much hassle. Good topic.
Yep…I struggle with the “but…LOOK! It’s only a quarter!!” I have currently 8 packs of Yo Plus Yogurt in the fridge. And today I stockpiled ELEVEN…yes 11 boxes of Eggo Bakeshops. AND I only have ONE child…7 1/2….And I don’t eat carbs anymore… So, yeah, I wrestle all the time. Or worse I see that it’s FREE with coupons and get it. Like BBQ Sauce at Publix this week. I have a zillion coupons that will make my “purchase” FREE. So, I’m giving my FREEs to our church’s St. Vincent DePaul. Someone will need and appreciate it. I currenty have 12 on my shelf. LOL!
I have been able to save a minimum of 50% each week on groceries thanks to you Kelly! I have had an overflowing pantry so I decided to start donating it to the local food bank. There is a church here in Spring Hill who runs one (The Well). I used to have an empty pantry by weeks end even though I was spending twice as much; now my cup runneth over so I am going to share.
I have a terrible time with this – it’s hard to argue with free or close to free (even when our pantry and freezer are overflowing). It’s just hubby and I so we don’t have need for a lot of stockpiling.
Kelly shared with us at one of her couponing classes about giving away some of what she gets free – I like that idea – I need to start doing that too.
I have been needing to stock up on just about EVERYTHING after a 3 week hiatus from shopping (oh the withdrawls too!!) So I got LOTS at Harris Teeter and just a few things at other stores this week!
I spent just under $13 for 4 trips to HT, and got so much good stuff!!
Here is the link with my pics and separate totals for each trip! So happy we have a few more days- only slightly dissapointed Kroger never joined in!

I thought I would share how we use our stock pile items. I try to have enough on hand that twice a year I do little or no shopping. For the months of July and August I only buy fresh items that I cannot get rest of year, I shop all our local farms and do some canning for the winter. Then again in December I do not shop. I really do not go inside a store in Decemeber, which frees up money for all those things you find you “need” to do in December. I make out the December menu by mid October and start to buy extra floor, sugar, etc for baking. I find not having to shop in December gives me so much time to relax and enjoy the season and one more plus..it gives me extra time to donate at church and local toy give-a-ways! The one other thing we do with our stock pile is that each year between Chirstmas and New Year I do a clearing out of items that are getting close to dates, things I over bought what we would use and clear out all those extra toothbrushes and toothpaste we seem to have! I take all these items to our church food pantry, which helps them to rebuild after the holidays. I have found many people give in the weeks before Christmas but few think of it rest of the year.
