Share the joy this year by getting your Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes ready now for collection week, November 14-21, 2011. Watch the video above with your children, and then use the questions below as a springboard for discussion.
- When were you that joyful about receiving a gift? Who was the gift from?
- What do you think this boy is most excited about?
- This boy lives far, far away. (If possible, show Zimbabwe on a map.) If he lived close by, do you think you would be friends?
- Do you think he and his friends are very different from you and your friends?
- How do you think you would feel if you saw this video and you were the person who had packed that box for him?
- Did you know that you can be a part of bringing joy to boys and girls this Christmas?
This project is near and dear to my heart. Not only are we teaching our children about missions and their responsibility to the global community, but we are helping them get away from the “me” focus that can run rampant during the holidays, and we are re-directing them to be focused on others.
Take a look at these suggestions for gift items to pack in your box.
How many shoe boxes will you fill this year? What is your favorite item to include?
doing this with my InSpirit church ! they’re all seniors – their first time & verrry excited!
i showed them the video as an intro and we’re now working on getting them out to do the shopping!
Can’t wait to show this to my son as we prepare our boxes this year! I love the pure excitement over a toothbrush!!! Happy tears!
I know, isn’t it so sweet. But it is also so humbling to realize that everyday items we take for granted, are sweet gifts to these kids!
