Recently, I have found myself in a season where I’ve been dealing with insecurity and doubt. While this isn’t necessarily something new to me, it isn’t something I really know how to approach. I don’t actually “do” anything about it. Most days it floats in (or settles over me) and I just wait for it to head out. Can you relate?
Then I read A Confident Heart by Renee Swope and can I say I absolutely loved it?! I love Renee’s encouraging message to women using her own testimonies. I wasn’t actively looking for it, but God placed it in my lap at the right time. See, I had actually downloaded it for Free on my Kindle a while back and forgotten about it. Then one day I was searching the titles on my Kindle and I stumbled upon it. I say stumbled, but really I believe it was God bringing it to my attention. I love it when He does that! He knew that I was in a season and the message in A Confident Heart was just what I needed to hear. It spoke volumes to me.
“Until our hearts find complete security and significance in God’s unconditional love, we will never be satisfied.”
Wow.
Opening up this book in my daily quiet time was such a great way to start my day. Remembering God’s promise of power IN US through His Spirit was the best way to push self-doubt away.
“Self-doubt blocks the promise of God’s power and truth to change us from the inside out so that we can live with a confident heart.”
This was probably one of my favorite books. I would highly recommend it to any woman – and have been recommending! A Confident Heart isn’t just about overcoming doubt. It’s about diving in and living out a life of faith by breaking through negative feelings that are holding us back. This book is a great “tool” to keep around and reference later. I can see myself picking up this book again when I feel that doubt creeping in.
Here is the book description from Amazon:
Often the biggest obstacle to living out our faith is our own doubt–about our worth, our abilities, our relationship with God, and situations in our lives. A Confident Heart gives voice to the questions, doubts, struggles, and hopes so many women have. Author Renee Swope shows women how to identify, overcome, and even use doubt in order to live confidently in God’s power, truth, and grace. Perfect for women’s small groups or individuals, A Confident Heart is an authentic, insight-filled and encouraging message for any woman who wants to exchange destructive thought patterns with biblical truth that will transform the way she thinks, feels, and lives.
Have you read A Confident Heart? I would love to hear any books or thoughts you have on overcoming doubt, self-worth or ways to combat those to live out your faith. Leave me a comment. I look forward to hearing from you!
Wow…I can completely empathize with this, Kelly. I haven’t read this book, but it sounds like one I need to add to my list! Have you read “Conversations with God”? This reminds me of some of the passages in that. That book has been rocking my world. Only finished book 1, but plan to start book 2 next week…LOTS of great nuggets I’m still absorbing! 🙂 Happy Monday, Kelly!
No but I’ll have to put it on my list!! Thanks for the recommendation. 🙂
I’m adding this to my reading list. Sounds like just what I need!!
I’ve read Beth Moore’s So Long, Insecurity, but I’d like to read more about overcoming doubt.
