Oct. 4: Free day at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, thanks to First Tennessee www.fristcenter.org or 244-3340
Oct. 4: Free day at Cheekwood thanks to HCA. www.cheekwood.org or 356-8000
Oct. 10: Dyer Observatory Telescope Night from 7-9 pm. This is sort of an open house at the Vanderbilt Dyer Observatory at 1000 Oman Drive. Astronomers are on hand, and the telescope is open for viewing the night sky. www.dyer.vanderbilt.edu or 373-4897.
Oct. 11: Oktoberfest Celebration and Germantown Street Festival. This year there are two festivals in this historic neighborhood north of the Bicentennial Mall instead of just one. Oktoberfest is 9:30 a.m.–6 p.m. around Seventh and Monroe, www.nashvilleoktoberfest.com or 519-2629; Germantown Street Festival is 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. along Fifth Avenue North, www.historicgermantown.org or 579-3060
Oct. 11: Family Bike Ride from 2-3 p.m. at Shelby Bottoms Nature Center. Registration required. 862-8539
Oct. 18: Nashville Farmers Market Fall Harvest Festival from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. with samples, music, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities and tons of fall produce (think 100 pound pumpkins). 880-2001
Oct. 25: Franklin Downtown Pumpkinfest 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Free street festival featuring trick-or-treating, arts/crafts vendors, Franklin Tomorrow Chili Cook-off, Sister Cities All Things Pumpkin, People’s Church Kids Zone, costume contest and live music.
Oct. 25: The Great Duck Race, 11 a.m.–3 p.m. at Riverfront Park. Middle Tennessee Boys & Girls Club fundraiser involving rubber ducks. Includes a Predators kids’ zone. Duck adoptions are $5 each. www.duckrace.com/nashville or 862-8400
Oct. 26: Community Trick or Treat at Belle Meade Plantation from 1-3 p.m. Wear costumes and enjoy activities and some trick or treating on the grounds. 356-0501 or www.bellemeadeplantation.com
