DIY Bug Spray RecipeHere are some very simple and great recipes to make your own Homemade Bug Spray. The main ingredient you will need are essential oils. There are a few different recipe options below, depending on which brand you use and what you have on hand. The best essential oils to use for insect and pest repellant are citronella, lavender, peppermint, cedarwood, lemongrass, eucalyptus, tea tree/melaleuca and thyme.  If you don’t have the proprietary blends of TerraShield or Purify, you can try the very last recipe!

My Favorite Homemade Bug Spray

10 drops TerraShield Essential Oil blend
5 drops Purify Essential Oil blend
3-5 drops lemongrass or eucalyptus essential oil
3 drops lavender Essential Oil
1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil (or other favorite carrier oil)
1 teaspoon witch hazel
water

In a 4 oz. glass spray bottle combine all ingredients, then fill to top with water.

*Be sure to add oil and witch hazel when using oils like lemongrass/purify on the skin. The water drives it in and makes it stronger if there isn’t any oil added to it, so you might feel a burning sensation without it.

Homemade Bug Spray #2

20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
20 drops lemongrass essential oil
20 drops Terrashield essential oil
1 tablespoon fractionated coconut oil (or other favorite carrier oil)
1 teaspoon witch hazel
water

In a 4 oz bottle add the essential oils above and fill with water.

*Note: Eucalyptus is great for ticks and mosquitoes.

Homemade Bug Spray #3

10 drops Purify essential oil
20 drops Terrashield essential oil
5 drops cedarwood essential oil
5 drops peppermint essential oil

In a 4 oz spray bottle add the essential oils above and fill with water.

Homemade Bug Spray #4 (requires no oil blends)

8-10 drops each essential oils (citronella, eucalyptus, lemongrass, tea tree/melaleuca, and/or rosemary)
1 tablespoon carrier oil
1 tablespoon witch hazel
water

In a 4 oz bottle combine a total of 40 drops essential oils listed above. Use the ones you have on hand off this list in recipe. Fill the rest of bottle with water.
