Check out this Fox News segment from Atlanta, which my mother mentioned to me yesterday. As those of us who “go Krogering” know, Kroger can be somewhat arbitrary with their acceptance of coupons, honoring rain checks and low stock on coupon specific items. I recently had several experiences that are prodding me to shop elsewhere. Kroger Marketplace in Hendersonville is fine, has a marvelous deli and is squeaky clean. My coupons are accepted, but watch what the cashier is scanning and make sure that the cashier doesn’t just take your coupons and not scan them. In my opinion, the winner for the worst grocery store ever is Hendersonville’s sad and aging Main Street store, a store where rude cashiers and service desk workers have arbitrarily chosen to discount a value of 4.00 for free coupon items (charging me for items with free item coupons) and have refused to issue or honor rain checks for items that are out of stock but which have active coupons. I’ve returned over and over to this store to purchase items for which I have coupons, due to its convenient location, when I’ve finally managed to get a raincheck issued by a hissing customer service employee, only to find the stocks very low to non-existent on couponed items. Is the stock kept low purposefully? Who knows? Of course, I kept the receipts to prove it. I’m not a super couponer and only use a few coupons each month, so I can’t be classified as a “habitual couponer”, however, if you are, you should be aware of Kroger’s real-life practices.
