Yes, I am still here! I am continuing my rest and healing from a sinus infection and laryngitis. While healing, I did a little research when we went to purchase my prescriptions. We just changed our insurance from a group to an individual policy. Those of you who are self insured know that you usually end up paying for prescriptions out of pocket, no more co-pays. You will never guess what I found out!!
Costco Parmacy has the cheapest prescriptions I have found and you don’t even have to be a member to get them. They even have a Prescription Price Checker so you can see what you will be paying (Note: These prices may vary depending on your location).
I compared my generic prices on Flonase and Z-Pac antibiotic with Costco Parmacy, Walgreens and Sam’s Club Pharmacy, and I couldn’t believe the price difference.
Z-Pac (Azithromycin)
Walgreens Price: $ 45.44 (approx)
Costco Price: $ 8.93
Sam’s Club Price: $19.69
Flonase (Fluticasone Propionate)
Walgreens Price: $65.54 (approx)
Costco Price: $14.54
Sam’s Club Price: $15.19
As you can see, pricing differs depending on the pharmacy, so you need to call ahead and check your prices.
Also, if you aren’t aware, Publix has a FREE prescription program for generic oral antibiotics.

just shared this with my husband so he can tell his 'self pay' patients to check into Costco too for their prescriptions….thanks!
thanks for the info…i will be losing my insurance at the end of the month.
I had an excellent experience with Rite-Aid matching a price at Wal-Mart. As long as they can verify the price, they will price match. Another reason why I love Rite-Aid!
There is such a HUGE price difference on Rx. I called around on prescription prices for a morning sickness drug and was amazed. RiteAid's cost for 20 pills was a whopping $987.00 while Costco had the same drug for only $32 for 20 pills. I was astonished.
Sam's club can also get lower prices if you call. they use several distributors & have different prices for the same prescriptions. Sometimes it may need to be ordered & may take a few days to come in.
You do not have to be a member of either Sam's Club or Costco to get prescriptions filled.
Same thing happened to me. Zofran at CVS was about $7 a pill, while a smaller, local pharmacy in town had it for $.75 a pill–both were for the generic formulation. And since insurance doesn't cover it, it made a huge difference! Also, I have called all the pharmacies in town to get retail prices for some of our regular meds as well as some that our daughter might need should she get sick. I keep it handy so when she gets sick, I know right where to go instead of paying top dollar just to get it filled quickly for her.
Just a head's up that to save money you really need to call and compare prices with each prescription. I can't remember now what the medication was, but Target had a much better price for it than Costco. Also, my local Target has been willing to match a competitor's price. I had checked on Costco's price, and told Target, and they called Costco to confirm, then gave me the better price. This is great for when they're running the deal for free gift cards when you get Rx filled.
