Most moms have a place where they keep cherished notes, artwork, and maybe even a Mother’s Day poem. From kids straight to a mother’s heart, those are the best gifts of all. If you’re looking for something to use as a Mother’s Day poem from kids, this one is sweet and has been used for several generations. It was originally written by Howard Johnson as a song back in 1915.
MOTHER
by Howard Johnson
M Is for the Many things she gave me,
O Means only that she’s growing Old.
T Is for the Tears she shed to save me,
H Is for her Heart of purest gold.
E Is for her Eyes with love light shining,
R Means Right and Right she’ll always be.
Put them all together, They spell MOTHER.
A word that means the world to me.
Kids Activity Idea
If you have young children, you can help them come up with their own short Mother’s Day poem by sitting down and using the letters of “mother” to make up a unique mother’s day poem from kids that she loves most–her own! Ask them:
What can you think of that you like about Mommy that starts with an “M”, “O”, and so on? Run through all the letters. Help your youngest kids think of things that Mom does every day for them:
M – Makes my breakfast, makes me cookies
O – Opens the door, opens her arms
T – Tells me stories, teaches me
H -Helps me, hugs me
And so on. You get the idea. For older children, let them do their own thing. Remind them that poems do not have to rhyme! Jazz up their work with these Inkadinkado Mother’s Day Inchie Bundle Clear Stamps.
Remember, the best things in life are free. Mother’s Day poems that express what is in a child’s heart make the best Mother’s Day gifts. Applaud every effort and don’t try to do or re-do it for them. You will be surprised what they come up with, and Mom will LOVE it!
