I have always been an avid reader and love getting into a good book. When we decided to home educate our children, I started reading up on the importance of reading and was astounded to on the stats and benefits of reading. In this digital age, it is easy to put down the books and flip on the TV. But I want to urge you to get a book list going to not only stretch your thoughts, but also your vocabulary and your imagination.
Instead of suggesting books I haven’t read, I am going to list some of my favorite books I have already read and highly recommend here. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but will get you started.
If you are looking for good chidren’s books, I highly recommend you check out the book I have listed below, Read for the Heart: Whole Books for WholeHearted Families. Sarah Clarkson does a great job of highlighting the richest reading list, but she also makes an irrefutable case to the importance of reading to your children at an early age.
Have you read a good book lately? If you have a book you suggest, please add a link to it in the linky below, or leave a comment with the name and author. The best books I have read are suggestions from my readers.

I read Charles Dicken’s ‘Bleak House’ this past summer. I think it is good to really stretch my brain occasionally and read one of the classics. This one is a tough read and it took me 8 weeks but I was proud of myself for getting through it and thoroughly enjoyed the story.
I just started One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. It is absolutely fantastic — stirred my heart from the moment I started reading. Highly recommend it! Be prepared to be challenged in your faith.
this is a wonderful list!! thank you for compiling it!! i was wondering if you have any good ones for fatherhood???
I have seen the move Bleak House but I haven’t read the book. I think that it would be a great book to read. This past year, I loved the books “Let the Nations Be Glad” by John Piper, “Treasuring God in Our Traditions” by Noel Piper, and” Radical” byDavid Platt. They were all terrific! I am planning on reading “The Vine and the Trellis” and Martyn Lloyd Jones’ book on parenting. Thank you for the list!
Radical by david platt, weird and the christian athiest bycraig groeschel.
I noticed you had Dr. Rex Russel’s book on there “What the Bible Says About Healthy Living”. I would highly suggest also “Treasures of Healthy Living” written by Annette Reeder. Here is her website http://www.designedhealthyliving.com. Here is also a reference from Dr. Rex Russel’s wife. “This well organized book is full of good scriptural tips and sweet stories. I know God will use this book in a mighty way. Rex Would have been thrilled with this Bible study adn would have enjoyed being friends.”

Mary Beth Chapman’s book is very inspiring and one of the best I’ve read in a while. A must read!
