If you’re looking for more ways to save money at the gas pump, my favorite way to save on gas is with my Kroger card. Depending on where you live, you may have a Kroger nearby or one of its subsidiaries: Ralph’s, Fry’s, or Smith’s. With gas prices climbing to what seems like endless heights, my Kroger card is a painless way to accumulate points and take advantage of savings when I fill up. In fact, as the picture above shows, I saved $.40/per gallon just recently. The price that day was around $3.17 per gallon, and my price was $2.77 per gallon. When I fill up my mini van, that definitely adds up to big savings!
Here’s how it works:
1. Sign up for a Kroger Plus Card.
2. Use it! Points accumulate with every purchase you make at Kroger. Often, they will run deals (prescription or gift cards) that give you extra points. Once you spend $100, you earn 10 points, which translates into $.10 off your gas purchase at any Kroger fuel center (or subsidiary). You can earn up to 2000 points at a time (which would equal $2.00 off your gas purchase).
3. Points are good for up to a month after you make your purchases.

Krogers also Doubles point on a Gift Card purchase. I buy a card to a place I shop anyway and get the points. .
OOH, good to know!
MamawW, I do the same. In fact, right now, Kroger is doing 4x points for gift cards, so we purchased gift cards to stores for school clothing and school supplies and books. This added up quickly…and we were going to spend the money anyway. So gift cards at Kroger is definitely the way to go!
I just did the same thing! 4x the points deal on gift cards for ones we already use and I ended up saving 60 cents per gallon at the pump yesterday!
I try to consider ½ as empty – and fill back up at that point. I get more millage out of the 1st half a tank of gas. Once it passes the ½ tank mark it seems to go quicker – I know the millage is shorter.
Another tip we have learned: Buy gas cards at Kroger as well for all you gas/fuel purchases. We do this and get discounts on every fill up (especially while the 4X points are in effect for gift cards).
