My Kroger Trip – No Coupons!

on February 25, 2011 · 8 Comments

I did a quick trip to Kroger today to see what I could snag on organic manager’s specials and discounts without using coupons because two of the questions I get asked the most are…

How do you eat organic/natural and save money?

How do I save money without using coupons?

Today’s trip was a good example of purchasing lots of organic and natural products, fresh produce and meat, and not using any coupons.  We needed fresh produce and I scored some of great organic produce on specials. I can’t find my receipt, so I am adding prices and totals from memory. My final total was around $40 with no coupons, but I got 2 bags of organic apples AND Laura’s Lean Filet Mignon, so my hubs is going to be pretty excited to have that tomorrow night.

1 gallon organic skim milk — $3.19
2 bags green organic apples — $2.29/ea
1 8 lb bag naval oranges – $4.99
organic cherry tomatoes — $1.99
64 oz popcorn
edamame (frozen)  – to make Percorino and Bean Salad
1.25 lbs Laura’s Lean Filet Mignon — $11.23
2 bags pretzels — $1/ea
Kids sliced cheese – $.31/ea
2 Minute Maid frozen lemon juice
coffee filters
dish scrubber
3 pkgs sliced Kroger cheese — $1.66/ea
Hillshire Farm Turkey Sausage – for Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya next week!

Just curious why you bought the Kroger brand sliced cheese for $1.66 each when the sargento was $1.50 each. or did I read that wrong?

Because I am a goof ball and I thought there were Sargento coupons at home, and I wasn’t using my head! Even without them it was cheaper and better quality. 🙂

Okay, update Jennifer! Now I realized why I got the Kroger brand…they were out of the variety of cheese I wanted in the Sargento, so I got Kroger. I knew there was a reason, just couldn’t remember!

I actually had a coupon for the Sargento cheese, and got it for $1.10 each!! Thanks for the heads-up!!!

I love Krogers Manager’s Specials! I snagged a few this week myself! Almost free Menthos that were marked down and I had a coupon plus a new Wiltons cookie sheet and potato masher for CHEAP! I’ve noticed that when they don’t sell a lot of a product (probably b/c it costs more), they end up discontinueing it, so I grab them while I can. Harris Teeter does the same thing. It’s so hit or miss, and sometimes I forget my coupons at home which would have made the specials free and I kick myself later!

How do you know when there are particular manager’s specials?

Crystal – You just need to ask at your store’s different departments, each is different.

Which Kroger do you shop at? I went to the Cool Springs Kroger today and found some deals.
