LOVE to read aloud together – We did Trumpet of the Swan last year – even my 3 year old enjoyed that…others we’ve read this school year…Stuart Little, Despereaux, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Ramona the Pest, The Secret Garden, Little House in the Big Woods…we try to read a variety that appeals to the boy and the girl. Makes it fun for both. AND my kids love to read books that have movies they can compare the book to the movie when we’re done. Have you used the Heroes of the Bible book? They are short bios but wonderful. We do those aloud over breakfast or dinner when we have a shorter time for family devotions. I also think they will be wonderful for all three children when they can read themselves. We all find them very interesting. Highly recommend this new find.
We do too! We’ve read the Fantastic Mr. Fox twice because the kids just loved it so much….and I’ve got four kiddos 14, 11, 7 and 4. We’ve also read Huckleberry Finn, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as well as Piercing the Darkness by Frank Peretti. Now, I wouldn’t recommend Piercing the Darkness for all ages. My older two kids loved it, and so did my 7-year-old, but he asked A LOT of questions and some subjects were too mature for him to understand. We just had to stop often and explain the best we could and tried to focus on the point the author was trying to make vs certain details. Reading as a family is a great way to connect and instill the love of reading!
