Yesterday, I did quite a bit of grocery shopping, because we were out of a few of my gluten-free and new diet staples. I was very excited to see the new Bulk Dry Food Bins at our local Whole Foods. I found Organic Dried Black Beans for just $1.99 per pound, which was the same price for a bag of conventional black beans at Kroger!
Also, the organic Santa Cruz Lemonade is still on sale for for $.99 each! Think popsicles….
I have to tell you, the gluten and dairy free grocery trips are definitely increasing our budget. So just know, that is the reason for my increase in spending, however, I am still saving quite a bit comparatively speaking. With this type of organic, all-natural grocery trip it is pretty difficult to keep the budget under $40 a week, so we have actually doubled our budget per week. But, we have more energy and our health issues are improving! And, that is what counts, right?

I want a WHOLE FOODS in Wichita! Dillons is pretty good with a stock of this kind of stuff, but sales+coupons on those things are few and far between. I have went wheat/gluten free before and loved it, just need to figure out the best way to eat that way cheaply. I enjoy all of your posts. The way you shop is the way I do: Cheaper but better for you. Thanks again!
I love this post! I get discouraged talking to couponing friends that spend next to nothing compared to us, however most of them don’t buy healthier options like we do. Keep the bargains coming! I don’t have a Whole Foods, but sometimes I wonder if I am doing very well shopping at the stores we have (basically just Aldi, Kroger, and Wal-Mart). Just a suggestion, I am always trying to increase my kids’ consumption of veggies. If you could figure out a recipe and see if there is a way to save money by making your own green smoothie (like Bolthouse Green Goodness) I would LOVE it! We always have it on hand, but it is pricey!
Alice, I am so glad it encourages you! Tomorrow I will be posting my deals at Kroger. yes, I think you can do wonderfully at the other stores, it is just a little less variety than Whole Foods for gluten-free. But if you are looking all-natural, you can use these stores and just keep up all the kitchen from-scratch cooking!
Hi,
I am GFCF as well. You can save money sometimes by buying some of your bulk items online at places like Azure Standard. If you go under http://www.spunkycoconut.com, she has a post under saving money where she outlines where she shops to keep her budget down. I hope that helps. Buying in bulk and cooking more from scratch has helped us save money.
