The Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel is once again accepting new applicants in many locations.
If you are interested I would sign up quick, because these go FAST!! I have never had the opportunity to participate in this program because they never need members in my area. I will say it is said to be a little work, but many participants say the benefits are wonderful, lots of free stuff!!
Have you heard of the Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel?
As a Nielsen panel member, Homescan will provide you with a FREE hand-held scanner. Every time you or members of your household shop, you’ll use the scanner to scan the barcodes on all of your purchases. Then, once a week, you’ll send them your purchase information.
What’s in it for you?
You’ll earn gift points for scanning products. The gift points will be redeemable for name-brand merchandise, including electronics equipment, jewelry, household items, toys, and much more! You’ll also earn entries into sweepstakes!
Interested in becoming a Homescan Panelist?
Just go here and fill out the form! Please be aware that certain Zip codes are excluded (I’m not sure which ones), so you may or may not qualify. It worth a shot to see, though! (Unfortunately, my zip code didn’t need anyone, rats!)
Do I have any readers currently in the program that would like to share their perspectives?
I just filled out the Neilsen Home Scan …….I hope my information is safe.
I received my scanner in the mail last week – I entered all my info for the week’s shopping which was really easy and didnt take that much time. I had heard that it was alot of work, but it was actually super simple and quick. But, I plan on returning the equipment and opting out. After I had all the info loaded, I tried to transmit the data… it says in the book that it may take several attempts. Well, I tried at least 20 times with no luck. It also says that it will transmit automatically late at night and will make no noise during the process. So, I waited for the auto transmit. It beeped all night and kept saying the transmit failed. I called customer service, only to wait on hold for a long time and never spoke to anyone, but I was given the option to leave a message. I took a look at the rewards – and it really doesnt seem worth it – even though it is not alot of work to scan, you only recieve 150-300 points per week and it takes thousands and thousands of points to earn any reward and it just doesnt seem worth it to me. Obviously the transmitting error could simply be on my part, but even if it worked properly, I think my time would be better spent else where….
Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
I was a member about a year ago. It is very tedious and time consuming to scan the bar codes of every item you buy, then input any coupons you used, every time you go shopping. Also, the transmission process was impossible. We don’t have a land line phone and it simply wouldn’t work with a cell phone (the receiver wasn’t big enough). After two weeks, I gave up and sent the scanner back. I thought it was too much work for too little reward.
I agree with Rachel, the rewards are NOT worth the time to scan everything. If it was just scan your groceries, it would be okay, but after scanning EACH item, you have to answer the question if you used a coupon or not, and how much it was. I spend enough time getting my lists together with my coupons to get good deals, I don’t need to add the tedious task of looking back at all my lists to see that I used a $.35 coupon on Tide, which was doubled by the store (which you also have to enter). The rewards are not only high points, they are not very good prizes. Call me crazy, but I would much rather save that frustrating hour each week than to save up for 66 weeks at 300 points to get enough to earn a toaster! I did it for two weeks and sent it back. Maybe that’s why their positions keep opening. I don’t know why anyone would want to do this after trying it! It would be interesting to know their retention rate.
I too opted out of the program after trying it. It is WAY too time consuming…especially for someone with a baby. Unless you have a lot of free time, I would recommend passing on this one.
