I knew we had a received a toy that my four-year-old son would enjoy when I got the new Switch & Go Dinos from Vtech. The kids love these and have a blast with them. They are very similar to a transformer toy in that they transform from a car to a dinosaur and back again to provide an interactive 2-in-1 play experience. And as much as my son loves cars, he was about to pee in his pants he was so excited about the new toy! His favorite part, of course, is the car mode. He loves the car sounds that it makes too.
Oddly enough, I was surprised by how much my daughter loved these toys too. At 7 years old, it wasn’t really challenging for her like it was for my son. But she has just really enjoyed playing with him. And I love that they are playing together–laughing, giggling, having fun. As a 7-year-old, she felt it wasn’t really challenging, but for a four-year-old, it definitely was. She was teaching him how to transform the cars into the dinosaurs. (We have Silver the T-Rex and Horns the Triceratops.)
The screen on these toys is really small, so even though it makes growling sounds, it does not appear frightening. It’s a good quality toy. My kids can roughhouse with the best of them, and it seems to be pretty durable.
The only initial concern that I had about these toys was that it was supposed to present dinosaur “facts,” and I was hoping the toys weren’t going to push evolution theories. However, I haven’t heard anything that conflicts with how we teach the dinosaur age. They present facts that concern the animal’s strength, eating habits, and things of that nature.
