I’ve recently noticed manufacturer coupons that say “do not double”. Does this mean that my store will not double them?
This question is always a big topic of debate amongst readers. The flat answer is that it depends on the stores policies.
What I Have Found
In my coupon usage, I have found that “most” stores double all coupons that fit their doubling criteria (ie. $0.50 and under), even if it says “Do Not Double” clearly on the top. In fact, I have even asked at my stores while at checkout and they say their store policy is to double that amount and that is what they will be doing!
The store is the one who actually eats the doubling cost and the reason the manufacturer usually puts that on the coupon is because they don’t want to “devalue” their product with excessive discounting. The only store I have found NOT to double a “Do Not Double” coupon verbiage is Harris Teeter, all the other ones in my area double.
