Okay, so I didn’t do a very good job of sticking with my budget this week. I was doing great until I took an unplanned trip to Trader Joe’s. Now, you must know, as unplanned as it was, it was fairly planned in the fact that I have been wanting to go for weeks. But, yesterday I had the opportunity to go to Trader Joe’s with my friend Heather, and that is always more fun! Especially with four wound up kids in tow!
I started the week with a very brief but fruitful trip to Publix to grab some bread and cheap low (otherwise known as smoked salmon). Then before the great Aldi produce deals ended I headed there to load up on strawberries and avocados. And even though I don’t have my Trader Joe’s picture, I’ll list for you here what I got. It was mostly a “Fun” trip full on non-necessities. I decided to stock up on some “snack and dessert” types of items that are much better for you that at most stores.
Oh and no, I didn’t use any coupons or plan before I went! I did exactly what I tell my readers NOT to do. And that is why my bill was so high (Gasp!).

I’ve been following your site for a couple of months now, and wondering “Does she ever just… buy stuff?” I was weirdly relieved to see you had sort of a confessional haha! Thanks for all the great tips– I am much smarter about my purchases now, and get lots of great deals (Like 7 avocados, a mango and 2 cans of soup at Aldi’s for 6 bucks!), and thanks for keeping it real, too!
Ruth – you are so funny! Yes, I do just buy “stuff” and honestly sometimes I forget to post them if they are not part of a “trip”, but I will try to start remembering. 🙂 I am all about keeping it real here. I cheat on eating good foods sometimes, forget my coupons, even my grocery list but I think it is all about moderation. Just doing the best you can when you can and enjoying life!
