My normal routine when getting on a plane is to sit down and read, turn on the computer or listen to my music. This time was a little different.
If you really think about it, flying takes a lot of trust.
You get on board, hoping you actually boarded the right plane to take you to your destination. You buckle in; sit back and listen to the pilot and attendants give you instructions and flight information.
This was just like any other flight I have taken. As the plane climbed into the air, we began to go through a very thick patch of clouds.
I felt like we were never going to break through. I started to panic a bit.
Finally, we broke through the clouds, flying high above them. And the view captured my attention like nothing I had every seen before.
Did it always look this way and I just never paid attention?
When I looked out, this was all I saw. It was absolutely amazing and breathtaking.
All that went through my mind as I looked out the window was that song by Third Day that says “Your love oh Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness stretches to the sea. Your righteousness climbs a mighty mountain…” .
I was seeing the true majesty of our Ultimate Creator.
I felt like I was out on frozen tundra, and there was nothing but snow covered ground as far as the eye could see. The sun was peeking up over the horizon, shining on the bright white puffy mass of clouds.
I felt peace.
For some reason, I kept thinking of Peter walking on the water. Was this what it was like when he stepped out of the boat? These clouds looked like a solid platform that I could easily step out and stand on, but I know that they are made of vapor and could never hold me.
The experience of riding in a plane, reminds me directly of our relationship with God. We get on board the plane of life, sit down, buckle in and trust that Gods plan is the right one. Often, I wonder if I am going the right way, did I get on the right plane, did I make the right decision.
Once the plane takes off, and I have officially committed to follow God’s plan. And as I live out that plan, I go through thick clouds that cause me to doubt. I wonder if I will ever see the top, will I make it. The flutter in my heart quickens, I start to grab on to anything I think will give me peace. Many times that is anything but the Great Comforter himself.
Finally, after waiting, and usually not patiently, I break through the clouds. And it is all worth it, just to see His Glory.
You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.

I SAW THAT TOO…flying Saturday evening from Ohio to Memphis. well, not exactly that view, but thick dark clouds and then rising above, the most glorious hues of sunset colors I have ever seen! I wanted to take pictures but I was in the aisle seat and the elderly lady in the window was already slightly disturbed my commitment to watch this beauty unfold out the window. It made me think how the new heavens new earth beauty will take the everyday beauty and multiply it to new heights!
Kelly,
I hope you don’t mind. I shared this on my facebook page. I love it!
Blessings,
Kristan
