One of my children’s favorite Christmas Traditions is when we bring down our Christmas books and wrap them. We wrap a total of 25, so we have one for each day in December leading up to Christmas Day. My goal is to get to the point that most of the books are Christ-centered themes on the true meaning of Christmas. These two books are the perfect addition to my Christmas Basket Book collection!
Hint: If you don’t have 25, borrow them from the library, and number them to know when to return them.
The King’s Christmas List by Eldon James
Can I just tell you how sweet this book is? I read The King’s Christmas List to my daughter the day we were pulling together our Operation Christmas Child Boxes. It really gives children a great picture of how generosity and giving can look. This book really gets to the heart of the issue, and was a great discussion starter for our time together. Take a preview look at this wonderful book.
Eldon Johnson is a Dad and an author who was fed up with the “gimme gimme” attitude of Christmas he saw around him. He seeks to create ways for families to take back Christmas and learn to give to others together at this important time of year, like Christ did for us.
Book Overview
The King’s Christmas List tells the story of a little girl who learns how to give at Christmas time. Emma and her little dog Shu-Shu were thrilled to be invited to the King’s birthday party. But what do you get a King for his birthday? Emma and Shu-Shu have no gift, but they bring the Christmas cake they made with Mom and put on their Sunday best as they dash to the King’s carriage. And of course, Emma couldn’t go anywhere without her beloved Cherry-Bear. On the way, they have encounters that lead them to bestow their cake, winter-cape, and even Cherry-Bear, on others. Now they’re chilly, rumpled, and empty-handed-what will the King think? Emma frets, but when they finally meet the King at his palace, they discover they gave the King exactly what he wanted.
A Christmas Prayer by Amy Parker
Both of my children loved this book, but it was more inline for my 2 year old. I love the prayer rhymes and how each page goes through something to be thankful, which is a theme we are learning right now. It was a great addition to our Christmas Book Basket!
A Christmas Prayer is a precious storybook for little ones 2-5 that tells the Christmas story through the character’s in a typical household nativity set. The child in the story offers prayers of thanks and blessing for each of the characters as he wanders through his house on a snowy Christmas night. It has interactive dialogue and soothing rhyme so your child can repeat the prayers and wind down for bedtime.
If you’d like to see a preview of the wonderful illustrations in this book, you can do so at this site.

My fav Christmas book is The Night Before Christmas. My parents bought it last year for my boys. It’s one of the recordable books, so as the boys turn each page, my parents “read” each page. Even though we live away from my parents, my boys can have their grandparents read the story every year. 🙂

My favorite Christmas book — so far — is The Polar Express. It’s a new way of looking at faith making a meaningful difference in your life.
I also want to say I love the “tradition” of the 25 books leading up to Christmas Day. I’ll pass that on to my daughter for our grandson 🙂
Our favorite is The Night Before Christmas.
Without a doubt my favorite Christmas story is The Crippled Lamb by Max Lucado. We have a son who has special needs and when I read this book I always come to tears knowing that God does have a special plan for everyone. He even used the special needs of the lamb to be part of one of the biggest blessings the world has ever seen. A heartwarming book.
I don’t honestly know if I have a favorite… we didn’t have a lot of christmas books growing up, but I’d love to start new traditions in my family 🙂

My favorite Christmas book has always been Twas the Night Before Christmas! We have a family tradition where every Christmas Eve after we attend our church service, we come home, have hot cocoa, sit by the fire, open 1 gift and read this story. My boys are now 11 & 13 but they still want to carry on with this tradition. I love that about them!
