Taco Salad

This is one of my favorite Go-To recipes. I almost always have all the ingredients in my stockpile, or enough ingredients to make it, and my hubby loves it. It’s a winner!

*Scroll down to use print recipe feature and add to your Recipe Box.

You can use just about any of your favorite toppings for this salad. Here are some that I love:

  • ground turkey or beef
  • tortilla chips or broken taco shells
  • diced tomatoes
  • black beans
  • salsa
  • shredded cheese
  • sour cream
  • chives
  • black olives
  • jalapenos (pickled)
  • corn
  • taco sauce
  • ranch dressing

I make my own taco seasoning for the meat. I like it better than any I’ve found at the store, and I always have the ingredients on hand.  Here is my recipe.

Taco Salad Seasoned Meat

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 4-6

Taco Salad Seasoned Meat

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground meat
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 jalapeno, diced
  • 1 tsp. of each: chili powder, cumin, and coriander (can omit or replace w/ cilantro)
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. Brown meat.
  2. Add onion, garlic, and jalapenos.
  3. When the meat is brown and the onions have a translucent appearance, add the seasonings.
  4. Add water and mix thoroughly.
  5. Use a bed of lettuce or mixed greens as your base, then add seasoned meat.
  6. Pile on your favorite toppings and enjoy!

We had taco salad for supper tonight, topped with our “Oh My Goodness Amazing!” Taco Salad dressing: (not so healthy, but so yummy!)
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 t. celery salt
1 t. dry mustard powder
1 t. paprika
1/3 c. vinegar
Heat the above in a saucepan til the sugar is dissolved.
Add 1/2 c. vegetable oil.
Cool and serve over taco salad. Store in the fridge.

Thank you Jill for your Taco Salad dressing. I served it with taco salad at a company lunch without even testing it first – a possible risk, but the ingredients looked great so I took the chance. It is delicious! The tangy-sweet flavor is perfect.

I like Catalina dressing on my taco salad. And I make my own seasoning too, so easy, and no salt like the packaged ones.
