The "Provisions" iPhone App – Now Available!

by Kelly on January 27, 2010 · 95 comments

I am so excited to finally share with you my new iPhone Application that is out!  It is called the Provisions App and it is FREE.  Just search for “Provisions” in the App store and you will find it, look for the icon above.  You can get it through the App store on iTunes or at this link.

“Is that the best price? Should I get it now?”
These are questions savvy shoppers ask when making purchases. The answer is easy with the Provisions App! New from Faithful Provisions, the Provisions App tells you the best price on your everyday grocery purchases. By providing you with the best possible buying prices on your grocery purchases, you will save more money than ever before! If the price on the item you want matches the price on the price list, or close to it, you’ll know you better “get it now”!

How does it work?
You’re at the grocery store and wondering if $1.99/lb is a good price for ground beef. Just look it up on the Provisions App and see what the best price is for ground beef. Take control of your spending! Don’t be fooled by grocery store hype! Having the best prices at your fingertips allows you to be an educated and empowered shopper, in control of your money!

The Provisions App was created by the founder of FaithfulProvisions.com and Randa Solutions. The list of products and retailers is regularly updated by the staff of FaithfulProvisions.com web site, in order to reflect the best possible pricing and variety of products. The list is quickly downloaded when you run the App or, if no network is available, the most recent downloaded list is used.

This looks great! How do we know before purchasing if our local stores are included? The downloads have regional pricing? While this looks exciting I think I’m not understanding the “how” very clearly? :)

Reply

Super Jenn – The prices are average sale prices and will vary a little by region, but will give you a ball park to shoot for when purchasing items at the grocery store. There are two stores, Aldi and Costco, I included because they have great “everyday low prices” and items I don’t see go on sale often. Great places to get staple items. But, all other pricing is applicable to any store. I hope this helps!

Sounds cool! I have an iTouch not an iPhone will it still come up with the list even if we don’t have WiFi in the store?

Reply

21 Kelly January 28, 2010 at 2:15 pm

Sammy – I have an iTouch and when I click on Apps, it just takes me to the store if I am near a WiFi connection. I didn’t think it would. Then you find it that way. Let me know if that works for you!

I don’t have a cell phone really, just one of those pay-as-you-go phones but I just make myself up a price book in a little notebook that fits nicely into my purse and then I know all the best prices on the stores in my area (we don’t have Publix and several others but we do have Kroger and an
Aldi). The prices change some but I just keep my little notebook updated with the things we eat. Easy and free!

This is great! I only have an iTouch, which my kids got me for Christmas, and it just wouldn’t update, but I could get at all the info that was already there, offline. Thanks so much, I’ve been meaning to get around to making a pricebook.

Hey Kelly. iTouch user here and I wanted to see if you'd consider adding to the app an option that we can add our favorite stores on our own (like Trader Joe's!). So, I can move my price book to the iTouch for when I go shopping.

Whitney – That is a great suggestion, I will put that on in the queu for future upgrades! Thanks so much!

I have it, rarely use it. Since I only shop aldi & 1 other store, not including WF/TJ, the price comparison doesn’t help me. I have no idea which store is carrying that low price in the app, so I’m probably not going to take advantage of that deal. If I knew which store was claiming the deal, I’d use the app all the time. I hope I’m making sense.

Reply

56 Kelly December 19, 2011 at 1:04 pm

Kimberlee, the prices in the app are general prices you can get items at a ballpark price when they are on sale. For instance if I was going to purchase chicken breasts, I would want to shoot for about $1.99/lb on sale. So, if I found them for $3.99/lb, that wouldn’t be a good price, but $2.50 would possibly be a stock up price. Hope that helps. Oh, and these are conventional prices, not organic. There is an organic list you can check prices separately on the app and List Download.

Love the idea of the iphone app for comparing grocery prices, but I have an droid. Is there any way to get the same app on my phone?! Thanks for all you do!!

Unfortunately right now it’s only available for the iPhone. However, I do have them in a printable format you can print off to take with you!

I see that Whitney asked part of my question/suggestion… It was about being able to add other stores onto the apps; the other portion of the question is, can I delete specific store/s I won’t be needing since I live in Northern Ca. & we don’t have them in these parts of the country??? As you may guess I’m not very techo savvy & I’m still learning to use my “iphone.”
