Blueberries are in peak-season, so now is the time to stock up. When you buy in season and stock up on fresh fruit, you will want to store some of it for future use. The easiest way to do this is by using a Flash Freezing method. I just pull out my cookie sheets and freeze the berries for a couple of hours, then double pack them in zipper bags, label, and put them in my freezer. (Learn more about the Flash Freezing method here.) My family loves blueberries, so we’ll eat a lot of them fresh: as kids’ snacks, with my homemade yogurt or ice cream, and in cereal. The ones we freeze we’ll use for smoothies and homemade popsicles.
Aldi’s has blueberries on sale this week for $.99 per pint. (Prices do vary by region, so be sure and check your local store before you go.)
Here are some of my favorite recipes for Blueberries.
- Blueberry Spinach Smoothie
- Vanilla Ice Cream with Blackberry Compote (substitute Blueberries)
- Blackberry Pie with Whole Wheat Crust (substitute Blueberries)

This is a great example of how it doesn’t always take a coupon to get a great deal. Many times, you can simply stock up when items are in season and on sale, and you will find a significant decrease in the amount you are spending. Print out my Free download of Seasonal Fruits and Veggies, with everything listed according to season, to keep on hand for meal planning and budgeting.
