While you might find a lot of great bargains when you shop thrift stores and consignment sales for your kids, you may become intimidated or frustrated when shopping them for yourself. Do you end up with stuff you don’t like or that seemed like a good deal at the time? It doesn’t have to be hard or stressful. In fact, it can be a lot of fun if you follow these three simple tips.
Know your closet. If you don’t know what you have, don’t go shopping. You could actually end up spending more money in the long run when you purchase a pair of capris or a skirt that goes with nothing you already own. Plus, you waste money when you buy something you already have (black shoes, a navy belt) that you’ve forgotten about.
Know your style. Have a sense of what you like and what works with your lifestyle. For example, if you never iron and you’re in a hurry every morning to get out the door on time, don’t bother purchasing a 100% cotton anything! And if you already have a stack of “dry clean only” clothes that you never wear, don’t be tempted to buy anything else with that requirement.
Know your brands. Knowing what brands work on you and fit you best helps when browsing through the racks. There are some brands that might not fit your body type, ever! You’ll save time knowing to skip those brands and focus on the ones that fit you perfectly.
Your kids aren’t the only ones who can benefit from shopping thrift stores and consignment sales. You can too!
