Everyone has their own way of connecting with the Lord, their personal outlet and way of getting in tune with the Holy Spirit. Mine is a morning walk while listening to praise music. While on this morning’s walk I was listening to Carrie Underwood’s version of How Great Thou Art. It is absolutely beautiful. And my favorite part is when this part comes on.
When Christ shall come, with shouts of acclamation, and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim “My God How Great Thou Art”
A few weeks ago our pastor was talking about how, throughout the Bible, nature is used to describe God and His Power. As I listened to this song this morning, I loved thinking about the mountains and the rolling thunder, such awesome imagery used to describe my God, His might and His greatness. So, for those of you who might have seen me on my walk this morning, sorry if I looked like that crazy lady talking to herself with my hands in the air! But it was one of those moments when I just couldn’t control my heart’s desire to praise the Lord. I absolutely came undone. There aren’t enough of those moments, those times when I forget it all and just listen to my Father in Heaven. But, ultimately, it is my choice to listen. And when I do, I wonder why I don’t do it more.
All through the Bible it is evident that there is power in the spoken word. God created the heavens and the earth with just His Voice calling it into being. I have noticed lately that in those moments when I pray out loud or sing the Lord’s praises out loud, those are the times I feel the Holy Spirit so strongly in me. You have to know my experience today wasn’t about me–it was the Holy Spirit reaching up from inside me, because on my own, I would have been too embarrassed, wondering what my neighbors would think of me walking, singing, and praising.
So I want to challenge you with something today. Have you proclaimed God’s greatness out loud lately? If not, I want to encourage you to do it and see what His Spirit does in you. Romans 10:17 says, “faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.” I think it’s important for us to hear ourselves talk about the Lord and all He is. It’s critical to our spirits that we praise Him out loud. Try it! I know it will be amazing, freeing, and beautiful. What He says has power, He promises it. Watch this video, and sing out loud How Great Thou Art. Let His Presence wash over you.
How Great Thou Art Lyrics
Oh Lord my God
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds
Thy hands have made
I see the stars
I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout
The universe displayed
Then sings my soul
My Saviour, God, to Thee
How great thou art
How great thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
And when I think of God,
His son not sparing,
Sent Him to die,
I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden
gladly bearing He bled and died
to take away my sin
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great thou art
How great thou art
Then sings my soul
My Savior, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
When Christ shall come
With shouts of acclimation
And lead me home
What joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow
With humble adoration
And then proclaim My God
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul
My Saviour, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
Then sings my soul
My Saviour, God, to Thee
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
How great Thou art…
Love Carrie’s version of this. You can really tell that she knows what she’s singing about!
P.S. Kelly, since your book is done, you should consider doing a devotional book. Great thoughts this morning!
What a wonderful way to start the day! I have heard that Carrie Underwood rendition so many times and never tire of it! But starting the day with that, and picturing you looking like a “crazy lady” had put a song in my heart, and a desire to go take a walk and see with new eyes His marvelous creation. Thank you and God bless.
This version gives me goosebumps! Keep on praising!!
I love this version, so beautiful! My church’s band does a rockin’ version of this too, that is both cool and EXTREMELY moving. Thank you for sharing 🙂
Wow, how wonderful. Thanks for sharing your love of the Lord with others. This was such a blessing to me. I heard something a little while back about God singing over us and how we don’t hear it. But the author said to just notice the sounds of nature, his creation, singing over us and know that it’s Him. I live in Springfield and we didn’t have the cicadas like the Nashville area did. A few weeks ago I was in the Goodlettsville area and heard the cicadas so loudly. I know I looked like a crazy lady smiling and laughing at the sounds. I felt the Lord was singing very loudly over me.
Kelly, your blog has been such a blessing to me in the short time since I stumbled upon it. How encouraging it is to see other believers proclaiming God’s glory on a daily basis! This has always been one of my favorite hymn’s and Carrie’s version of it is truly inspiring and beautiful. Thank you for sharing it and thank you for sharing yourself so openly with all of us. God Bless!
Dawn – the verse in the Bible about God singing over us – Zephaniah 3:19 – one of my faves!!
I love how Romans 10:17 tells of God’s power overcoming our weakness when we simply listen to Him and have our faith strengthened by Him. If there is any embarrassment for our God in me, reading the word of God and contemplating the Gospel in its pages strengthens me to speak about it again and overcome my weakness by the Spirit’s power.
