Wallpaper in Kitchen

Guest post by Faithful Provisions contributor Vickie Morehead.

Wallpaper is making a comeback, and if you want to add it to your home’s design, you’ll want to get the best buy. I’m excited to welcome its return into the homes I design. Wallpaper offers color, pattern, and texture to otherwise plain areas. It can:

  • Add a dramatic statement
  • Punch things up
  • Calm things down
  • Take a room from house to home

Saving Money on Wallpaper

Wallpaper in Dining RoomWhen it comes to saving money on wallpaper, you have to look at the quality of the product and how far your dollar will go in making the best purchase. You don’t want cheap wallpaper. Wallpaper that is poor quality will not wear well. Today’s wallpapers, in an effort to bring the consumer a lower price, can be really thin. If you’re tempted to go cheap, remember this:

  • A thin paper is hard to apply.
  • A thin paper is much more difficult to remove.

What Should You Look for in a Wallpaper Before You Purchase?

Saving money is about making purchases that are wise investments, and that applies to all things about your home—both interior and exterior. Ask:

How does it feel? A quality paper will feel strong between your fingers, not flimsy.

Is it washable? Wallpaper will say “washable” if it is. This is something to look for on the label.

If spills or splashes happen, clean your wallpaper gently, using a soft cloth and warm sudsy water.

Is it colorfast? Consider where you will be hanging your wallpaper. If that room receives direct sunlight, you’ll need to be sure your bright pop of color isn’t going to fade.
