Making The Most of Swagbucks and Gift Cards

on December 22, 2009 · 27 Comments

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Search & WinI have been using Swagbucks for about 6 months now, and honestly I just now figured out how to make it work best for me! So, I want to share it with you, because I LOVE my Swagbucks. So far this year I have gotten lots of Amazon and Starbucks gift cards, as well as a Sephora gift card, last month I got an iTouch and the latest was an HD Digital Camcorder (similar to a FLIP).

What I learned:
You can not redeem Swagbucks for a gift card and expect to use it immediately. You have to order different gift cards (like Amazon, Starbucks and Sephora) whenever you have enough Swagbucks in your account, and then you have to wait for the gift cards to be deposited into your account. Each gift card has different terms of service on how they distribute the cards/codes. There are limits on how many of each card you can get each month and when they are distributed. For instance, it is good to know that Amazon gift cards post to your account the 16th and 30th of each month. So only twice a month, and they have a limit of 5 gift cards per month. So, what I have learned is that it is best to keep my gift card codes on My Gift Card page until I need them.

I hope this helps you better use your Swagbucks. I love mine, and think it is great to get free items just for using Swagbucks as my search engine.

Kelly- What have you found to be the best way to earn points? Did you get a lot from having people join through you, or did you earn a lot by shopping and buying online? I have had it for not even maybe a month and have 22 points. I was wishing I had the 3,000 points like you. 🙂 Thanks!!

Alison – With Swagbucks you earn points by doing searches online. Swagbucks has a toolbar that is powered by Google and Ask.com, that you can download (I use mine for ALL my searches). So you would use it to do everyday searches like you would Google or Yahoo. Friday’s are Mega Swagbuck days, you can earn up to 100 Swagbucks per search!

Kelly – How in the world can you earn up to 100 Swagbucks per search on a Mega Swagbuck day? I have been a member for probably a year now (it seems a lot longer) and have just over 200 points. I use Swagbucks for each search and CANNOT earn more than 3 swagbucks per day. I have never gotten more than 2 swagbucks in a search. Although I don’t participate in many offers and no one has joined under my name I still think 200 points for more than a year is pretty cheesy. I sit down at the computer up to 3 times a day and usually stay on for 2 or more hours each time searching under Swagbucks with very little success. Just had to get that out there. Thanks for listening.

Phyllis, I have never been lucky enough to earn 100 in a day, but it is like a game. On Fridays the Swagbucks denominations are higher. You have a higher change of winning larger bucks, I think they are 10, 20, 50 and 100. I got 5 and 10 in searches on Fridays, but not lucky enough to get the big ones though!!

Phyllis I think to get a lot of swag bucks you have to buy from their participating retailers. I do a lot of online shopping so I think this might come in handy for me for 2010… I’m I have been a member for 1.5 das and have 7 swag bucks and have hardly even been on.. but I’ll be trying on Fridays for sure!

Casey L. you are probably right. I guess I do the very minimum on their site and have to be thankful for the points I do get. I was just hoping to use some this Christmas to cut our cost on gifts but with just over 200 it wasn’t very fruitful. I’ll be setting my sites on Christmas 2010 and be thankful that everything I get is FREE. Merry Christmas to all!

Kelly- I just signed up for swagbucks and have downloaded the toolbar and set as my home page. I noticed in an above statement you said you can earn swagbucks per search, but I’ve only recieved them on random searches just once or twice a day. I’ve been looking for someplace that may have more details on the ins and outs of Swagbucks, if you know anyplace will you please share. Thanks! Oh, I just signed myself, my sister, and a friend up for your seminiar Feb 13th…we’re very excited, see you then!!

I signed up for Swagbucks about two weeks ago and already have over 400 SB in my account. I only do the searches and seem to win a lot! I actually won 49 SB on Mega Swagbucks day, but those never even posted to my account (I didn’t enter the code required to make sure I wasn’t a robot…that’s why they didn’t post). Anywho, I love the site and think everyone should keep doing searches as often as you can. Just a tip…if you have a phone that gets internet access, search for random stuff while you’re sitting in traffic – I have probably won over 100 SB by doing that. Good luck everyone!

    Hi,
I cannot find any Swagbucks codes that are current to sign up, they have all expired. Do you have an update code? Thanks.

    Kelly,
its 1 week with swagbucks and i am saving for an ipod….
Can i get my gift cards directly into amazon a/c? how do i get them under my gift cards?
i “snag” ed for two $5 amazon gift cards. they asked me to confirm my shipping address and i did. didn’t know how to get it into amazon a/c directly.
Can i keep collecting them and use it together?

You will “snag” them and then they will send you an email to confirm. Once you confirm, they will be released to you on the 15th of the following month. You can get 5 of each Amazon gift card each month from the 1st to the end of the month. Then those gift cards will be released in your “Gift Cards” part of your Swagbucks account on the 15th of the following month. You will have an Amazon Gift Card number and that is a “promotion” code that you use in your Amazon ordering screen.

      Hope this helps!

I’ve found that when you do a search, you may not win swagbucks on the first page of results, but if you continue to click through a page or two, then you get a reward pop up. Don’t give up, it works!

Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text
in your post seem to be running off the screen in Ie.

I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know.

The layout look great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon.
    Cheers
