Reader Jennifer asks:
I am confused on how many coupons I can use on each item since so many sites have the same coupons? I shop at Kroger and Walmart!
Jennifer, great question! I get this question quite a lot, because in my weekly Store Deal coupon matchups, I often list a slew of coupons under a deal matchup. I think the best way to explain it is to give you a deal scenario idea and let you see if first hand. Below is a hypothetical example for Kroger.
First you must know that my Kroger doubles coupons $.50 and under everyday . Plus, according to my Kroger Store Policy, you can use one store coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item. (You can checkout the full Kroger Store Policy page here.)
How it Works
So, let’s say Oreo’s are on sale this week for $2 and I have a $.1/1 Oreo printable coupon (manufacturer) and a $1/1 Oreo Kroger My Magazine mailer coupon (a store one).
Here is how it would work…
Oreo Cookies, 16.6 oz bag — $2
Use $1/1 Oreo Cookies printable (manufacturer coupon on Coupons.com)
AND
Use $1/1 Oreo Kroger My Mailer coupon (store coupons)
Final Price: FREE after sale and BOTH coupons
You will also see some deal scenarios that look like the one below. I try to type out exactly how the deal works, but for lack of time, I default to hoping that you know this policy! I know, many don’t so, that is the reason for this post.
In the deal matchup below, there are tons of coupons listed, but you will assume all are manufacturer coupons unless they have a store name listed by them. In this scenario, the only store coupon listed is the Kroger eCoupon (the 4th one down). You can use any other coupon listed here WITH that coupon to get a deal. While we try to list the store coupons separate, many times we don’t (on accident), so I hope this explanation helps you out!
Pillsbury Grands Biscuits — $.99
–$0.30/2 Pillsbury Refrigerated Grands! or Grands! Jr. (exp 3/2/2011)
–$0.30/2 Pillsbury Refrigerated Grands! Biscuits (exp 3/5/2011)
–$0.30/2 Pillsbury Refrigerated Grands! Biscuits Cellfire eCoupons (exp 3/7/2011)
–$0.30/2 Pillsbury Refrigerated Grands! Biscuits Kroger eCoupon (exp 2/27/2011)
-$0.30/2 Refrigerated Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits 1/2/2011 GM Insert (exp 3/26/2011)
-$0.30/2 PIllsbury Refrigerated Grands Biscuits 12/5/2010 GM Insert (exp 2/26/2011)
Final Price: $.69 ea/ wyb 2
I hope this helps and isn’t more confusing. Anyone else have a question about combining coupons? Leave it in the comments or add it to my Q&A Friday Submission Form.

Kelly, I think the Kroger ecoupons are actually manufacturer coupons. Plus, if you click “+more info” on them they say “Limit of one coupon per item. Digital coupons and paper coupons may not be combined on the purchase of a single item.” I have to admit sometimes I use paper coupons without realizing or remembering that I had an ecoupon, but I don’t think the Kroger ecoupons are supposed to be store coupons. Plus whenever I get the home mailers, almost all of them say “manufacturer coupon” on them. Usually the only store coupons in my home mailers are for Kroger branded products. Hope that helps!
Hi Kelly! The My Magazine coupons that I get always say “manufacturer coupon.” Are they really considered store coupons? They seem to be coded like manufacturer coupons, so I just assumed they were. I’ve used them in other stores and they were accepted just fine so I believe they are manufacturer coupons and not store coupons. Have you had any luck stacking the paper coupons at Kroger?
Okay, I clearly used a bad example and I am SOOO sorry. I should have used Publix, but was trying to stick with the question of stores Kroger/Walmart. EEkk, I am so sorry!
So, answers to your questions, I usually have a few “My Mailer” coupons that are store coupons, not manufacturer – those are the ones I would use. I am not saying to use 2 manufacturer coupons on one item, just one. As I remove the Kroger eCoupons, I mean only a Kroger coupon that is a store coupon in the My Mailer. HOpe that helps.
My Kroger ecoupons always ring up in addition to the paper coupons on one item. Also, it will not ring up several times for the same type of item if I buy two or more. For instance, if I buy 3 Fiber One bars and have only one ecoupon for 40 cents off one box loaded on my card, it will take 40 cents off of only one box.
Most of my Kroger Mailer coupons say “Manufacturer Coupon” at the top, but have “Kroger” at the bottom. We can stack these with other manufacturer paper coupons?
The checkout lady at my Kroger store says the Ecoupons are manufacturer coupons and aren’t combined if you have a paper coupon. But, if you used the .50 off coupon, wouldn’t it double it to $1 or not? I’m new to this too.
At my three Krogers only paper coupons are doubled. Also, the ecoupon and the paper coupons are stackable for me on the same item.
I had been meaning to ask about the Mailer coupons anyway, so no worries. Do you know if they usable at any store or only at Kroger since they have the Kroger logo?
Yes, they do stack, but the ecoupons say you are not supposed to.
In your example you said Ore coupon .50/2 then when you explain you said coupon was $1/1. Did I miss something, because I still am not getting it. I’m slow…sorry.
Cathy – I am sorry, I changed the verbiage to reflect the deal scenario, I was typing too fast!
I’m trying to get the full understanding of couponing. I was watching a show on tv where this lady had many of the same coupon. Ex. $.50 off 1 Liter of Coke. She would buy 30 bottles of Coke and have 30 coupons. Is this possible because most coupons say 1 coupn per item?
Plus, if a coupon says $.50 off 2 Liters of Coke does that mean $.50 off both Liters or $.50 off each Liter?? I am so confused!
