It’s Time to Go Strawberry Picking!

I can’t believe it’s time to go strawberry picking again! My kids had so much fun this morning and we had so much fun when we went last year! Looking back at these pictures from that outing, I’m amazed at how much they have grown!

If you want some fresh strawberries, now is the time to stock up! I love going out to a local farm because not only am I supporting farmers in my community, I’m getting chemical-free strawberries that I can feel great about serving my family. We especially love them in Strawberry Banana smoothies!

When I get my time later today, I will flash freeze a large portion of them. The rest we will eat fresh and use in other recipes. I’d love to do something gorgeous in a trifle dish for Mother’s Day!

If you have any great recipes that include strawberries, please share!

How do you use your strawberries after freezing them? Mine seem change texture after freezing.

I just looked on comments from last year. They went to Nolensville to Andrews Farm- I love Nolensville!

How do you find out about things such as these? I remembering finding local CSA’s a couple of years ago; but I wasn’t aware we had local strawberry picking. I love your site!

The N.C. Strawberry Association today has rolled out a free NCSA Farm Locator app that’s designed to help iPhone users find strawberry farms across the state where they can pick-their-own or buy fresh picked berries.

The app is available for download from iTunes

Susan, I think the secret is in flash freezing the strawberries. Check out my post on flash freezing: https://faithfulprovisions.com/2009/09/18/flash-freezing/. I do mainly use the frozen in smoothies.

Crystal, Thanks! You might want to check out this site: http://www.localharvest.org for help in finding a farm near you.

Karen, Thanks for the great info!
