Unconditional Love

I was awakened in the dark wee hours by a soft, frantic whimpering.  My two year old lying beside me was having a fitful sleep. I reach over to console him by putting my arms around him and my hand stroking his sweet little face. Instantly, those tiny hands accept my grasp and hold me tight. Knowing that I am there to keep him safe.

Is there anything sweeter than the unconditional love of a child?

I know what you are thinking. Why is your two year old sleeping in your bed? Five years ago I would have said the same thing. But, now two children in and my heart full, it is one of the sweetest parts of my day. My husband and I carve out lots of time together throughout the weeks, so this is something we both are grateful for.

It makes me so grateful to feel connected with my children. I am insanely thankful that I was given the wake up call to focus on these little people now, and not ten years down the road. To not feel like I wasted precious time with them. Don’t get me wrong, I have wasted plenty. But, I feel like I still have an enormous opportunity to pour my love into them.

I hear the same little pitter patters coming down the hall in the middle of the night and a sweet whisper, “Momma, Momma, where are you?” I quickly hop out of my side of the bed to sweep him up in a full embrace and carry him back to his usual place right beside me. This little person snuggles into his nightly spot, quickly falling back into sleep.

Do you think that is how our Father in Heaven feels about us?

Do you think His heart quickens to accept our affection?

Does He welcome any chance to be loved and cherished by us?

I think so. I know so. He says so in every Word He gave us.

some people may think you are nuts for letting your children get in your bed.. but I for one bawled like a baby reading your post. It is SO true. Our three year old has started climbing into bed with us early in the mornings and sleeping the last hours in our bed. At first we would take him back to his bed but now we are just planning on getting a bigger bed because we so enjoy him being with us when we wake up. 🙂

So impressed you posted this, we get alot of flack for letting our two year old get in bed with us in the middle of the night, but we agree…. there is nothing sweeter. I enjoy every cuddle and moment that she is snuggled between us (we all love it!) 🙂 One day, the desire to be in our bed will pass, and I dont want to miss these sweet moments!

Although as adults, we tend to gravitate toward one focused “love language,” a child speaks, hears and feels them all. Enjoy your children as God intended. No regrets. God Bless You.

I LOVE the idea/picture of God jumping out of bed to comfort me in the night. Thanks for a great visual to apply when things are tough. Blessings!

My boys are now 14 and 9 and they both slept with us from time to time. We too got alot of flack for that but now that they are older I really miss those precious moments. Enjoy!! It’s true they do grow up too fast 🙂
