What is Giving Tuesday? Well, in a season where thankfulness for what we have is becoming somewhat overshadowed by the lure of what we can get, Giving Tuesday has been set in place to remind us to give back. After four days of national holiday shopping–from Black Friday Weekend to Cyber Monday–the idea of Giving Tuesday is to now give back, also on a national level. If everyone picks some way to give back on this day, a lot could be accomplished to help other people.
Ideas for Giving Back on Giving Tuesday
Here are a few ideas for giving back on Giving Tuesday. Pick one and make a difference!
Give back by helping stock food pantries. Go to your pantry and pack a box full of non-perishables to drop off at your local food pantry today.
Give back with the gift of warmth. Take a blanket, scarf, or coat to your local homeless shelter today.
Decide on an end of year donation to your favorite charity or ministry. Visit their site online and make your donation today. Don’t wait–do it on Giving Tuesday. (I like Metro Ministries Operation Holiday Hope, a ministry that helps inner city kids have a brighter Christmas.)
Choose to shop with some of your favorite organizations or ministries. You can actually give back with your shopping dollars. A couple of great examples are Toms Shoes and Seeds Family Worship. Every time you purchase a pair of Toms Shoes, a pair will be given to a child in need. And whenever you purchase a CD from Seeds Family Worship, they send you two–so you have one to give away.
