This is our favorite afternoon snack. The kids love it best with real butter, melted and drizzled over the top, and lots of it!

Corn kernels are something I keep on hand at all times. We even pull this out for dinner in a pinch. What a good dinner!
Now if you want to make this a little more gourmet for adults, heat the oil in a small sauce pan with a couple of sprigs of fresh rosemary. Then discard the rosemary and pour that oil over it, instead of the butter.
There are two different ways you can do this, you can use a medium to large sauce pan to cook the corn, or you can get a stovetop popcorn popper, like this one I have here.
- 4 tablespoons oil (canola or olive)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup corn kernels
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- In a large saucepan (5 quart), add the oil and corn kernels.
- Turn the heat to medium, cover the pot with the lid slightly off, so that it is NOT on perfectly tight.
- Let the corn kernels begin to pop (after a minute or two).
- Once the popping has almost stopped, remove the pot from the heat.
- Transfer the popcorn to a large serving bowl and drizzle with melted butter and salt as desired, tossing well to combine.

We make “kettle corn” a lot for a gluten free snack for one of our children. I put about 1/3 cup of sugar in a large pot once my kernels start to pop. You do have to shake the pot, or the sugar will burn. When it’s done popping i pour it onto a cookie sheet and lightly salt it. The whole family loves it!
On pinterest, I was reading about making popcorn in your microwave by using a paper bag. I tried this method last night and it worked. You should try it too. I told my family that it was an experiment. Take one small lunch size paper bag and place about 1/3 cup of kernels and cook for 3 minutes in the microwave. Then you are free to add your salt and melted butter.
Sound great – thanks for sharing!
i tried pop corn,as per ur recipe, didn’t succeed
Oh, I am sorry, what happened?
How do you get the butter to actually adhere to the popcorn and NOT sink to the bottom of the bowl? I have started doing the paper bag method, but, I can’t get the butter part right. It’s either bone dry or it is a soggy mess. Either way, the butter is coating the bottom of the bowl. Advice? Please …. and thank you. 🙂
Kaycee, I usually just do 1-2 tablespoons of butter and drizzle the butter all over then toss gently until well coated. If it is soggy, you are using a little too much butter, or not drizzling lightly. YOu dont’ want to coat it, just lightly drizzle, hope that helps!
