Favorite Family Games
Our family loves playing games! One of our favorite activities to do as a family is to play family games on a Friday or Saturday night. We especially love playing games with our entire family during the holidays. Since my kids are getting older, our game options have increased. They still have a little trouble holding cards in their hands, so I got them these Playing Card Holders. Now they love playing cards too. (TIP: These make great stocking stuffers!)
There aren’t very many games that we don’t like to play, but I’ve narrowed down our favorite “go-to” family games. Here are our Top 10 Favorite Family Games:
- Apples to Apples (12+ years) and Apples to Apples Junior (reading age to adult)
- Uno (7+ years)
- HedBanz (6+ years) or HedBanz for Adults (14+ years)
- Sleeping Queens (7+ years)
- Spot It (4+ years)
- Rat-a-Tat-Cat (6 – 12 years)
- Monopoly (8+ years)
- Settlers of Catan (10+ years). This came HIGHLY recommended. We don’t have this yet, but I’ve heard so many great things about it I’m putting it on my Christmas List this year!
- Connect 4 (7-14 years)
- Yahtzee (8+ years)

my kids love catan and several of the others you mentioned! thanks for sharing your list! for older kids, we also like the Great Dalmuti (card game). other favorites include chess, monopoly, life and uno attack.
You might also want to check out Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride Europe. It’s a very fun, not too complicated game that requires players to build train routes across North America (or Europe). It encourages strategy/planning, but also adaptability and thinking outside the box. My kids are still too little for this one (although my oldest–3yrs–loves to get the little trains out and build them across the board or table) but I’d say you could introduce it around 10 or so, younger if you have a patient child or strategist.
